Altering your eating patterns won't make a difference if your body never even gets to digest the food. No offense, but you sound misinformed about eating disorders and the Atkins diet in general. I urge you not to go about losing weight this way, with or without the Atkins diet.

Why not pick up DANDR and give the diet a shot without purging? You might be very surprised at how fast it works and how healthy it is for you.

Please dont feed the trolls people.

Seriously - the likely hood that someone posting something like that is so high that it can hardly be taken seriously.

Yes - puking it all up will make you lose weight.

So will chopping off any unneeded apendages and dehydrating yourself to the point of near death.

Why not just take up smoking or narcotics while you are at it - I hear those work wonders on your weight...

        please stop!

i've been bulemic before...anorexic even. i know you want us to spare you the dangers of it...but it's just really sad you're even posting this. of course you'll loose weight...especially if you're on atkins. but it's so much better to loose that weight the healthy way. all i got when i lived the mia way of life is a burned esophagus, sensitive teeth, lifetime acid reflux, and a 3 month trip to the hospital where they stick tubes in your throat to feed you...and they end up watching what you do in the bathrooms...and your room. *shudders*

besides, i've only been on atkins for a week and i've already lost 9lbs! when i was bulemic it took me 3 weeks to loose all that weight. you still retain some food in your stomach when you binge and purge...to top it off...you're already absorbing the calories and nutrients before it even hits your intestines. it starts in the stomach.

if you're truly serious about what you're asking (there ARE people out there who ask these questions for the shock value of it)...i hope you'll realize that the consequences of bulemia will outweigh the benefits.

They eat lemon water and 5 saltines a day, and they become skeletons, so obviously if you starve your body of food you WILL lose weight.

            CaliMike83,
Please understand that we are only trying to help you in every way possible. Becoming a bulimic is not what you or any other person deserves. What is the point of going on the atkins diet if you're going to throw it up anyway?

Three years ago, i had the Anorexic Eating Disorder. This way of eating became such an obsession that no amount of weight loss was ever enough for me. After 3 months, one morning i woke up feeling like i was going to die and almost passed out. My blood pressure dropped to the low end of the lowest. Once you've had an eating disorder like bulimia or anorexia, you will always have the same tendencies to throw up or stop eating. You can never really cure it ! Yes, people like that are skinny. And Yes, they do lose weight. But once you lower your calorie intake and stop eating enough food, your body goes into starvation mode and starts looking for energy and uses your healthy muscle and such, and your body starts breaking down and becomes weak! Not only that, you actually decrease your metabolism PERMANANTELY !

Why do you wanna starve yourself if you can eat food as much as you want and experience steady weight loss without feeling miserable? Nobody is trying to lecture you at all, but some of us have been on that same road you wanna go on, and i'll tell ya....it's not a pretty one. Dieting doesn't have to be painful!

I've tried it... It doesn't work - I used to go on backpacking trips for a week at a time and I wouldn't eat during them, was *insane* the amount of weight I would lose during that week - was also insane that I would gain it all right back plus more after I came back. Anorexics burn muscle (hence skin and bone) not fat first.. Oh, I have also tried only eating once per day (small meal) of meat, or protein, to keep metabolism partially going and working out to compensate the rest, that doesn't work either, by the weekend I would sleep the entire time, and my hair *still* falls out from it at a shocking rate... this was a few years ago too.

You know that this isn't how to do it, so why are you asking our opinion of it? If you want to start loving yourself, this has nothing to do with how you look on the outside, it's how you feel about you on the inside, you can weigh 150 pounds and still think that you are fat and ugly and suck, or weigh 300 and think that you are beautiful and you are awesome.

As with everything in life, you will do what you want/need to do for yourself, and if you really feel that it is right, it doesn't matter what we say about it, but if you ever want to talk, feel free to PM me, I understand a lot of this stuff in a lot of different ways.

That is so horrible, by the way if you did not want warnings, that probably was not a good topic to write. If you follow atkins you will lose weight very quickly, don't rush things, good things come to those who wait.

                      YOU GOTTA LOVE YOURSELF!

apparently you dont love yourself if you want to hurt yourself like that. why use bulimia as a way to lose weight while doing the induction phase? trust me if you do the diet right then you WILL lose and you will lose quickly, stay encouraged and LOVE YOURSELF the right way :sympathy

I say if you think its a lighthearted enough idea to get on here and be ask about it as if you were wondering what shirt to wear then by all means go for it. Sure why not. What's the worst that could happen, sickeness, death...You're post is a slap to people who have seriously suffered with eating disorders. You should be ashmed of yourself. Attention comes in many forms, I suggest you find a more positive outlet.

Wow. I think that this is perhaps the saddest post that I have seen in a very long while. I feel badly for you that you feel so drawn to this end of the eating spectrum. I also took the time to read through your other posts that you have made on this board, and one thing is for sure. You seem like a genuinely nice guy. That being said, I think that this is one of the most dangerous propositions for you to even be considering. Yes, it does certainly sound like you have some serious body image/self love issues which you should try to work out. But you have to be willing and ready to do that. I wish you only the best my friend. Going down the bulemia route will be a very unfortunate way for you to attempt to find a better you.

I have some pretty strong feelings about bulimia as well. I have a niece that is basically no longer a part of our family due to her eating disorder. It's a big long ugly story that I won't go into.
I firmly believe that the binging/purging part of it is a symptom of a bigger emotional disorder, and I would urge anyone having these thoughts to go talk to a doctor.

I personally feel that someone has a forum disorder!

Try posting in a decent manner - you may find that replies are useful rather than hostile or upset - or was that your point?!
