This is going to sound strange to everyone, but I find that when i start to stall, If i cheat for 2-3 days (without gaining more than a lb) and then get back on induction, I loose weight faster. Why is this? I have no desire to cheat right now but i'm just wondering if this is an actual phenomenon or if i'm just imagining things.

Every once in a while we see a post like this, and I can't stress enough how risky this is.
Firstly, and most obvious, is that a person's idea to have a planned cheat can turn into a binge.
Secondly, a person can get complacent with this idea, and start having regular cheat days.
Cheating can throw you out of ketosis, and after a while your body will find it harder and harder to get back into ketosis.
Dr. Atkins said that cheating is 'the kiss of death'. There may be a lucky few that can dispute this, but for the majority of us, I think that staying the course is the best and wisest option.

I once cheated very badly with krispy kreme donuts, chocolate and other foods ...and i even lost 1.5 pounds the next morning. BUT, the day after that i gained back the 1.5 i lost plus another pound. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. It's too risky to try that again, and you'll break all your good habits.

Do a search on the board for 'cheat' posts, you'll see alot of ppl who thought they could have the odd cheat day, then fall of plan for weeks, some even months. There will also be alot of posts around xmas time for people who decided to have planned cheats for christmas dinner then had a horrible time getting back on , if they could at all. :noJen, 39, F

Instead of a "cheat", why don't you make sure you use your cup of 1 cup veggies instead of using the 2-3 cup veggies for a few days, or go up a step and add rung 1 (5 extra gms of carbs from veggies) of the OWL ladder for a few days, then if you so chose, go back to induction. That way you'll be getting a few extra carbs to maybe give you a boost, but not cheating with poor food choices?

Maybe next time instead of some bread, you could try some nice spaghetti squash and eat a whole serving with the same results! It's yummy & LEGAL! I've not been able to find a nice spaghetti squash at the new grocery I've been going to, so this weekend I have a nice shopping trip to my regular grocery to get a squash! UMMM!Originally posted by trish120i ate a couple of bites of bread yesterday and finally went down a pound for the first time in a week! :icondance

The losses were immediate, so you simply ate something which helped water be flushed from your system, not because you cheated.
You can have those same "whooshies" just by eating tobasco sauce on your eggs when you're stalled, and without the impending cravings and badness which comes with the sugar spikes.
Retaining water and then its impending loss shouldn't be rewarded by claiming a food reward each time was the ticket.
It's not only dangerous thinking, but I want everyone to experience success and freedom from old food-reward patterns!

What this sounds like to me is that your body is ready to go onto OWL instead of sticking with induction.
Staying under 20 carbs and in induction isn't necessarily going to have you lose weight the fastest... sometimes it can cause stalls etc because your body needs to move beyond it.... when you "cheat" and then go back to 20 carbs, you are actually jolting your body but if you move onto OWL, you may find a more steady weightloss without having to jolt your body into moving... if that makes sense.
I would say its time to read up on OWL and perhaps look into doing that...
Just a thought.

you know what the other day i cheated real bad, like went to a mexican food restraunt ate chips and salsa, carne asada burrito, and for dinner had ground beef mixed with cream of mushroom soup and mashed potatoes, lost a lb though, stayed in ketosis. i thought for sure i would want to cheat more, but something inside made me more determined to stick with this woe, and im gonna do it, im down 4 lbs now. got a lot more to go.

That's usually what happens to me. One time i stuck with it for a month and was stalled so i cheated and had no problem getting back on. The cravings were there slightly, but it seems as if i have more willpower after doing it for awhile. And besides, donuts just don't taste as good for some reason.Originally posted by KatHavluyou know what the other day i cheated real bad, like went to a mexican food restraunt ate chips and salsa, carne asada burrito, and for dinner had ground beef mixed with cream of mushroom soup and mashed potatoes, lost a lb though, stayed in ketosis. i thought for sure i would want to cheat more, but something inside made me more determined to stick with this woe, and im gonna do it, im down 4 lbs now. got a lot more to go.
And I was contemplating going into the next phase, but as completely strange as this sounds, it works better if i eat really high carb things and then just go right back on induction. I doubt it's healthy but I cannot get these last 20 lbs off for the life of me. I dunno...i have to force myself to cheat now. I'm not sure if i will. I'll see how the next week progresses.
