  • Question about sweets and bread...

Ok, I started this a few days ago and I had a question. I was wondering if during the induction I am not to eat low carb sweets because it could trigger cravings or because it can cause weightloss issues? I havent had a problem with cravings at all. Breads are more of my weakness if anything. So that is the first thing.
    2. Is low carb bread allowed during induction?

From my own personal experience.... I tried Atkins before and had to quit after a couple of days. I thought I could allow myself those sweets. Well, they just made me crave more and more of them. So, I ate an entire box on day three. They warn you about some people being sensitive to the chocolate, and BOY IS THAT TRUE. I was in the bathroom for HOURS. It was so horrible that I quit Atkins altogether. So, this time I'm sticking to the induction rules and foregoing the sweets. I've always craved sweets like crazy. But I've been doing the real induction for 12 days, and it's really helped with my cravings.

Sorry I don't know the real answer to your question. I just wanted to add my personal experience. Good luck!

Rick, by your question about the bread, I'm assuming you haven't read Dr. Atkin's New Diet Revolution, version 2002, (DANDR for short)

Get thee to a bookstore and pick up a copy! :yes You need to learn the 'why' behind the plan, get familiar with the Acceptable Foods list and the Rules of Induction.

The short answer is that it's best to avoid low-carb sweets for at least the first two weeks of Induction so you can learn what your metabolic rate is (page 158 of DANDR).

And no, bread, even low carb bread is not allowed until the last rungs of OWL.

Until you get the book you can read about the diet at the source, www.atkins.com.

On the main page of this board there's a forum called FAQ's and it'll have a lot of information for you..here's the link:

There's also the FAQ's on the top header of any of the pages at this board and here's the link to that as well:

Sadly I had read that...... its was more of a "will it affect weight loss" since at that time I wasnt sure that these products were in the market and such for him to evaluate.

Rick - if you check the ingredients of any 'special diet foods' you are considering against the 'acceptable foods list' you can soon tell if any particular product is ok for induction.
So if your bread contains wheat or other grain products or milk solids for instance it shouldnt be eaten till you are on the relevant rung of OWL.
Also if if contains loads of chemical sounding stuff you cant pronounce or dont recognise you can be fairly sure it isnt ok to eat!!
Another thing to look for is sweeteners of any kind - no more than 3 'servings' of these a day.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
