  • Another way to weigh...

    OK…

I know this goes against all Dr Atkins’s suggestions, but when it comes to weighing I take off on my own. My weight loss is rather slow (being slap bang in the middle of the menopause) and very erratic…but it’s there (which is the main thing!).

If I were to weigh myself once a week, it could happen that the first week I weigh when I’m at an all time low, and the following week I might be at an all time high. Hormones. I would be soooo disappointed to see a big increase… so I weigh a different way, which I find takes away ‘scales stress’ (at least for me… and I know ones, er…relationship…with the scales is very personal!).

So, I weigh every day (I can almost hear everyone yelling at me!!), and write it down. At the end of the week I divide by seven and get the average. That’s the weight I take notice of. I ignore the mid-week fluctuations and just compare the weekly averages.

Anyone else use this system? I think I picked it up from some other diet way back….

On everything else… I follow the Atkins WOE to the letter… and, so far, it’s working really well! Am beaming!

I weigh myself 2 times a day and compare my morning weights to my morning weights, and my evening weights to evening weights, then take my evening weights and subtract 3 pounds from it and if it's over my weight that i was that morning, i have a heart attack and go looking for clothes to see if i fit in (since it usually means that i will weigh a little more the next morning) but since I go to the gym and do weights, this happens and i still lose inches.

Yeah, I don't do the whole adding and dividing by 7 thing though, im just completely OCD about it. :nod

Glad you are doing well Sally, but weighing doesn't make a blind bit of difference as far as I'm concerned.
If you are happy with the weight that you are losing, and feel that the inches are coming off as well, THAT is what counts.
Who needs a numerical figure held over their head, which can depress you, especially if it goes up from one week to the next.

What matters is you, your health and your wellbeing, and if you are happy with these then good on you.

sallyslimsoon what you are doing is just fine. You don't suffer from scalenumberphobia nor does scale numbers seem to effect your metal outlook on your day. Those are the folk we tell to stay off the scales. heck I got 6 of them and I check all the time just to seee what doing something changes if you know what I mean.

Keep using your method if you like or average your weekly weigh in over a month for the monthly loss if you sort of have the scalenumberphobia.

I also like to find my average weight this way I learned to do it from doing CAD I find it helps me not get as upset (well I try not to get as upset)over the scale's fluctuations because when weightloss slows down it will show if I'm still losing even if its just half a pound. I know I should judge my progress by my clothes and how I feel but I can't help wanting to see that number go down.
