I was drinking reg. coffee like a fish, w/cream and splenda. The alcohol consumption was casual, mostly rum and diet. From what I read both on this board and in the book, and from my experience, ABSTAIN, at least until you get to OWL.-jm2c
I find that for me alcohol is a way worse offender if I drink I stall, caffeine and coffee in paticular are not a problem for me. The body views alcohol as a toxin and it wants to be rid of it and so it will stop burning glycogen or fat until it has metabolized the alcohol which results in a stall.Luckily i am not much of a drinker so I have no problem abstaining from alcohol completely, coffee on the hand I cannot function normally in the morning without it.

Coffee doesn't stall me; it does however, encourage my bad habit of not eating breakfast. I used to drink coffee from the time I got up to the time I went to bed. now i have 4 mugs a day....although they are pretty big mugs

I love coffee. I thrive on it. And its been my biggest challenge yet. The first time I did Atkins, I wasn't a coffee fan and had zero issues. I have noticed my use of fake sugars (be it splenda or aspartame) or my use of heavy cream is slowing down my loss, so I'm admist trying to reduce or eliminate both at the moment.

Well, on the good side, 3 cups of coffee a day have as many antioxidants as those famously touted acai berries.

Anyway, you might just be in a pause because your body is adjusting and may not have anything to do with caffeine. It happened to me. I was on Rung 1 for a while and it isn't much different than induction. I just added in more veggies that were already on the induction list, I just had more volume during the day. I skipped the dairy rung because I don't really care for anything there and I recently moved to the nut rung to get more fat without adding more food and I started losing again.

Definitely do fitday and check your percentages. You will want to be 65% fat, 30% protein, and 5% carbs.

              Keep up the good work!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Re: Coffee? How Does it affect your weight loss?

I drink 2 cups of very strong coffee a day. This is meant to be a life style change and I know i do not want to, and will not give up coffee for the rest of my life... So i drink it, and if it causes any problems, i'm just gonna have to work out harder.

Re: Coffee? How Does it affect your weight loss?

I am personally trying to give up the coffee completely. I like mine with LOTS of coffee mate .. and if i cant have the coffee mate i just dont want it .. sad but true .. i tried making my own with sugar free syrup and whipping cream. it was good, but close to 5 carbs a cup .. just too much for me ... so iv been drinking diet soda in the morning and water all day ...

Re: Coffee? How Does it affect your weight loss?

                    Me,
Just hang in there. Some people (my dh- for example) found that each time he went off the atkins the harder it was to get back into ketosis- once he got into it he does just fine. I think the body sometimes build up a resistance against change.

I know in my case when I reach a weight that I have been for a long time it takes me a few days longer to get off of it. Its like the body is saying "hey I was comfy just fine right here give me some bread" Luckily with 3 kids ages 7- 5 -and 4 months all talking & cooing to me at the same time I cant hear that little internal voice and proceed on.

Hang in there we can do this!
"Without struggle, there is no progress."

You can't eat your cake and have it your way. Darn.
