As you can see from my siggy, I've lost 11.5 lbs since Dec 20. Went off plan for a few weeks :raving But have now been back on and have lost 5.5 lbs since restarting. Dh and I and the kiddos are going home(Alabama) for a month in two weeks. I'm trying to get down to 125 before then, but if not ok that's fine. Anyway, we haven't been home in 15 months and I have been craving some good ole southern cooking...cornbread, fried chicken, fried catfish....etc. But, now that I've been doing Atkins I don't, which is good. But, I'm afraid once we get there my cravings will come back and bit me. Also, in the south, as some of you know, we get hurt if people don't eat our food. What if I make our families upset by not eating their food. And I would like just a few bites, maybe, of some of the things I've been missing, but of course I'll gain...What to do??? :confused Also, it's always warm here(Guam) and I exercise every day. In Alabama it's going to be cold(of course, anything under 78 is cold to us now) and I'm afraid I just won't be as motivated to eat healthy and exercise and basically bum out all day. Anyway, thanks for making it this far and I need all the advice I can get!!!! :wave

With regards to your family/friends being offended. Maybe you could warn them in advance, let them know how well you've done. Explain that you really want to be more healthy as well as losing excess weight and would they mind terribly if they supported you through this, including not being offended by passing on certain foods. You could always reinforce your appreciation for that support when you're actually there.
You have done so well up until now, is one bite really going to be worth it?
A moment on the lips - a lifetime on the hips.
I hate to fall on old cliches but it's true
Good Luck :hug

Your life is going to be full of weddings, parties, reunions, get-togethers, and there's always going to be something illegal there that tempts you. The idea that you will 'just have one bite' is not a great idea at all. If you were a year of Atkins experience and new-habitforming behind you I would probably not be as concerned if you were talking about this. Since you are fairly new to Atkins though, I strongly urge you to re-think that idea. You said you have already been 'off plan' for a few weeks...I have no idea why you did that, but if it was because of being tempted by something, you need to be aware that this is a danger area for you.
Emily has a wonderful idea there!! Let your family know in advance. :yes Get them on your side, and let them know all the wonderful things you CAN eat, so that they don't feel awkward when they see you picking at their food. Get them excited about the progress you've made, and I'm thinking they'll bend over backwards to give you things that you're able to eat.
I know that when I have a guest, I like to give them things they like, and in the past I've pushed people into eating things they shouldn't have, and I feel absolutely awful about that now.

I "went off" for a few weeks because I thought I could slowly add more carbs in myself.
ensive HUMMM, didn't work. I'm not saying that I will have one bite, I'm just saying that I've done this on my own here with my food and my way of life and I haven't been "tempted" in the least and I hope that once I'm face to face with all the food I grew up with, I don't give in. My family knows I'm doing this and they are proud of me. I know my family won't have a problem, but dh's family is the ones who base all get togethers and everything around food. I am going to try my hardest and I'm pretty sure I'll succeed. I just needed some advice from some of the old pros that have been there before. Like I said, I can control everything here and am afraid of not being in control there. KWIM? TIA
