  • 7 days down and getting MAD!!!!

I have been doing Atkins for 7 days and have lost 3 lbs. I am on the second pink color on the pee sticks, and have not cheated once and I am drinking a gallon of water a day. I am running after 2 three year old twins for 14 hours a day.... I am starting to get MAD!!!! On Jan 1 I started South Beach and gave it a shot and I did lose about 12 lbs in a month. So came back here. When I first did Atkins 2 yeas ago I lost 20 lbs in 2 week on Induction and went on to lose 60+ lbs. I was not exercising or doing anything different than I am now.... Whats the problem. I am eating about 1200 calories a day according to the chart and keeping carbs below 20 and the stick is PINK (second pink color) I am starting to get depressed, because I know this will work but I seem to be stuck.......I won't give up but I don't like feeling this way... :anger

Hi there. I know you must be frustrated about losing 3lbs in 7 days when you lost more than that the first time....however....how many pounds do you have to lose overall? Usually during the 14 day induction you can expect to lose about 5 to 10% of the total weight you need to lose. So if you had 30 pounds to lose, expect roughly 2 to 3 lbs over the induction period. This number can vary depending on the person, their activity level, and their metabolism. Soooo, be patient, drink your water and keep doing what you are doing because you are definitely in ketosis (pink sticks). You also may want to take your measurements because I've found the scale doesn't always show the whole picture of how our bodies are changing. Many people can go for weeks without a scale number change but take their measurements and have lost inches all over!

    Good luck!

      Measure! Measure! Measure!

Also, 3 pounds in 7 days is NOT bad! Atkins is not a magical diet where you'll lose the same weight you lost in your first week or two. Your body is getting used to the lower carb intake.

Just keep on doing what you're doing and you WILL reach your weight loss goal.

      You're doing GREAT!!! :hug

I lost 5 pounds over the 2 week induction so I'm with you in the slow weight loss department. However, don't let it get you down because it's 5 pounds lighter than you were pre-induction!

You're doing great so far! Keep it up and you'll be down to goal in no time. Besides, who knows, maybe next week you'll lose more than you expected!

123poo, it has been quoted quite abit around here recently that if you are in ketosis, YOU ARE IN KETOSIS. There are NO levels of it, of which you are on the lowest. YOU ARE BURNING FAT.
The sticks aren't always a good indicator as, if it turns at all, your body will be working as you intend it.
Don't get upset because you are not maroon or whatever color it goes up to. You are doing fine where you are.
I tried Atkins for the first time about 3 years ago and bought the sticks. They barely turned color and put me off completely. As a consequence, I gave up. I now know, however, that had I stuck with it, the WOE would have worked for me.

Some people just react differently to the sticks, depending on various factors to do with Pee. But don't lose heart, you are doing fine.

Thanks for the good words, its nice to hear the support. I know not to rely on the sticks but they are just such a pretty color in the morning hahaha...I will measure and try to be happy....I know I can do this, its just the weight goes on so fast and comes off so slowly....

Honestly, I don't think 1200 calories a day is enough for you. I know you're busy, but if you get a few minutes to yourself, try and get an idea of what your BMR is (Basal Metabolic Rate), that is the amount of calories you burn just to live and breath at rest. I like www.fitday.com. It gives you an idea of your BMR based on your age, weight, and activity level. I think you'll find you're not eating enough. You can keep track of the foods you eat as well and see if you're getting the recommended 65% fat, 30% protein, and 5% carb ratio.

3 pounds in 7 days is .4285 pounds per day! Pretty darned good if you ask me! Betcha you didn't gain it that quickly! You should be doing a happy dance! :icondance

Also you have to consider that you had already lost weight when you started Atkins!
I think SB is also a lowcarb diet (I am sure someone will correct me if not) so you may not have had all that water weight to lose that non-dieters have when they start out.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

thanks, I am using fitday and I did check my BMR, its at 1600. I just can't seem to eat any more food. I am not hungry. Should I just be eating to get to a certain number. Like do I eat eggs just to get to 1400 calories? I don't get this part?

I try to keep my calories/ratios up. Some days I agree, it's really hard. Luckily, high fat items like avocado and olives agree with me (we can have 1/2 an avocado per day on induction and up to 20 olives). I don't eat a lot of cheese, but on days where I need to add some calories and or fat, cream cheese is great, or devilled eggs. I never thought I'd count calories because I need to eat more, not less!

I never thought of olives, thanks. It is strange counting calories to eat enough....

I think it should be a rule that you don't weigh yourself until after the entire two weeks of induction! I lost ten lbs in the first two weeks, but I don't know if I lost five and five or four and six or what... doesn't matter though, does it? haha

Don't despair! You may have water retention, or something else going on. It's only been a week! If you are expecting to drop weight faster than you gained it, you may want to consider the ax diet. The weight comes off quickly, but you feel like #$@@... hehe

                            Keep up the success!
