  • Starting week five....update..

:joy I tried this diet over two years ago and didn't read the book :no

I went into induction flu, not knowing what is was, and gave up. I decided along with my husband go give Adkins another try beginning Jan 10, 2005. Fortunately this time I became better informed and knew what to expect. Thanks to this website and of course the DANDR!

The first week I felt miserable. The headaches, cravings and such were driving me crazy. BUT this time I've stuck with it.!! I'm so glad I did! As you can see by my weight tracker I've lost 14 pounds!!!!

I suffer from fibromyalgia so exercise is a problem. I do as much as I can without hurting myself. I walk more, and have some 3lbs weights that I use. Even a little helps.

Thank you all for being so supportive and answering my questions! Hope I can make goal by May!! My parents are coming into town and I haven't seen them since Christmas. Would love to hear the, "WOW you've lost weight!"

During weeks 3-4 I really didn't have a weight drop. My body found a weight it was comfortable with years ago and stuck there for those two weeks. It (my body) has now discovered this woe is good for me and I've started losing again.

My husband has about given up. He has gout and under a drs. care. He has to take pednizone and indicine (sp?) for it. This diet when in ketosis really flares the gout up. Unfortunately he's only lost 12 pounds and has stayed there for over three weeks. He's not gaining but he's not losing, inches either. The meds he's on ups his sugar levels to combat the increased uric acid levels. He feels it's not a win-win situation and is talking about doing slim-fast. I'm afraid he'll just gain what he's lost and then SLOWLY begin losing again. OPINIONS??

    Sorry for rambling....thanks for listening!!

    :hug for all

    Go You! Excellent Stuff!

As for your husband the most important thing is to keep him healthy, why not ask a doc what they think? as im not familiar with gout.

From what WebMD says (based totally on my unknowledgable opinion), you should probably speak to your doctor about trying atkins with his condition. Also, if the doctor does give the ok, maybe trying a vegetarian version, or keeping track of which foods have lower amounts or purines in them would help him stay on track without causing more attacks... Just a thought.. or two... Overall, I think you should get the Drs. OK before starting anything just to make sure it's safe, no reason to hurt or suffer.

          Congrats on your weight loss.
Have your DH talk to a doctor. I think that Slimfast is not the way to go IMO. I seem to recall that Dr. Atkins wrote something about gout in his book. Good Luck to him.
