  • Is Ketosis Real, does it really equal weight loss?

    Hello, you all inspire me!

Back in January, my original start date I was in deep purple according to the sticks and I ws not losing any weight until I cheated and pounds came off. I am a bit concerned because I am in deep purple again and I dont see a weight drop and when I measured myself I am the same (I dont want to cheat again because its hard starting back over again). With my experience from this it is hard for me to believe that Ketosis = weight loss. Can someone enlighten me.

stix color isn't ketosis and NO stix color change doesn't mean you will lose weight.
It means you had a large amount of excess ketones in your blood at the tiime your urine was being made.

You can eat 20 boxes of butter be the darkest purple and gain weight on Atkins.

Follow the rules all of them eat only the foods on the induction foods lists and as Dr Atkins repeatedly says in DANDR eat only enough food to satisfy your hunger not your belly nor your eyeballs when you eat and stop no matter how much food is on the plate, room in your belly or carbs in your budget, drink all your water do the mandatory exercise part of your Atkins, yep exercise is mandatory chapters 15 and 22, take the supplements your body needs and you will be a large loser on Atkins program

    Happy low carbing to you.

What 2big said... The good news is that your body is indeed burning fat for energy as evidenced by the ketones in your urine. Whether that fat is body fat or fat from your food, no one can tell you without checking measurements for a reduction in body fat percentage. The WOE does work if you follow the rules (not saying you weren't), but it does take sometime in some people who are metabolic resistant. So no ketosis doesn't equal weight loss, but it does show you are indeed burning fat of some sort.

Theres nothing to explain, any change in colour means you are in ketosis,

If its deep purple then not enough water is being drunk and you risk getting dehydrated (not fun, believe me)

so if you see "traces" thats a good thing.....

This of the stick as a pregnancy test, you either are or your not, if it changes - you are, no matter how pale.

so, am I wasting my time and money buying the ketostix? Should I even bother since it is not considered a sign of weight loss? Dr.A says to use it in the book, but now I those who are well versed in this WOE think its misleading. OOOOHHH the confusion.I was always so excited and felt reassured when I showed small or trace....so it doesnt really matter now? urplequ:

When I first started I tested every day because it verified I was indeed burning fat for fuel. As time went on, I tested less and less often as I knew I was eating correctly, and I didn't need a stick to tell me that. I think they are valuable for those starting out to weed themselves of hidden carbs and making sure they get to ketosis or when you happen to slip. If you need the validation (like I certainly did) that you are burning fat, continue to use them. If you know your WOE and have no doubts, they become unnecessary.

Mine are crazy. I haven´t cheated and I do a "clean" induction but ..... some days there´s color some days the stick doesn´t change.
I give up!!!!!! (the sticks! no this WOE :guns )

Remember the amount of water you drink is going to affect the color too, I find that when I'm drinking all my water the color is usually very light and when I'm not it gets darker.
