  • virgin coconut oil?

I have been reading lots about the benefits of virgin coconut oil combined with a lo-carb diet. I went out and bought some and substituted it for safflower oil when cooking my shrimp and WOW~ it is amazing!!! Supposedly, it can help burn 3 x's more calories due to some chemical properties that stimulate the thyroid gland~ Anyone have any thoughts on this??

I just say someone else commenting on coconut oil. It sounds great but isn't it high in saturated fat. Not that I think sat fat is the evil that the media makes it out to be, I just don't know.

Pure unhydrogenated coconut oil is one of the best oils in the world.

it is antifungal, antiviral and has metabolism and thryoid supporting properties as well. The type of saturated fat found in coconut oil is a meduim chain, it is not the harmful sat. fat that scientist once thought it was (but it is in a hydrogenated form...)

The coconut oil you want is the stuff that hardens at room temperature and softens in slightly warmer temps.

I use it for shaving, for a moisturizer, for a scalp/hair treatment, as deoderant (it really works) and for cooking. If I don't have time for a good breaky, I will swallow a TBS just to get something good in my tummy.

I think it's good but I'm very skeptical about the thyroid stuff... I took it for at least 3 months without any noticeable changes (I'm hypo)

Womens Day 02/15 issue has a huge article in it on this oil. I looked into it a few weeks ago just because I wanted the taste of oil, but couldn't find virgin coconut oil anywhere in Dallas.

I believe their website is tropicaltraditions.com if anyone wants to do some reading.
