  • DH wants to take a cruise the first week of May!!!

I know this sounds exciting BUT I'm so afraid of falling off the wagon! Can I go off of the WOE for one week and get back on? What will I be facing? We've cruised before and I know that you can eat 24 hours a day! Also the food and sauces, desserts etc are soooooo rich.

    HHHHHHHHHHHEEEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLLLLPPPPPPPPPPPPP P!!!!!!!!!!!

From my experience and from readin others' experiences, if you do go off for a week, it will take many months for you to get back on track. It's like the cravings come back stronger than ever and now that they've got you again, they DO NOT want to let go! I would suggest OWL or maybe even maintence, I know it would probably be difficult to do induction while on a cruise.

Thanks for your reply! Any other comments??? Advise?? We do A LOT of swimming and snorkeling while on a cruise. We also take the stairs and stay away from elevators, walk A LOT! Do you think additional weight gain will be a problem. I usually don't gain on a cruise, DH gains about 7 pounds.

Well you've done really good on your loss so far and by may you are going to be even closer to the weight that you want to be so, i know many others may not agree but i would stay on a very strick induction till you go and then pick just 1 day while you are there to relax and enjoy what you want, but realize that by doing that you will more then likely gain a lb or 2 and then stall for around a week or so. so i think its a personal descion as to weather you want to get to your goal weight more or weather you want to have dessert- im also going to have that prob around june 22 as my bf and me are going to a fraternity celebration, and then in july or more then likely aug we will also be going on a crusie. good luck in what ever you decide to do. have fun and take pics to share w/ your ha buddies

My thoughts....you have quite a while before May rolls around..I would start on OWL...get to know what your limit are, what foods work for you and what ones don't..you'll be USED to having more food choices/options and get used to how much of what you can/can't have to keep losing.

A week before your trip..jump back onto the induction wagon (Atkins mentions this type of thing in his book)... then on your trip FOLLOW your OWL eating plan that you know and love with maybe a desert thrown in for good measure (assuming of course that you can handle a sugary desert without COMPLETELY falling of the wagon). Considering all the "low carb" stuff out there I'm sure there will be OPTIONS on the cruise ship - PLUS most of the cruise ships have a workout area - if you can get a couple workouts in that will help keep your weight down too... oh, and stay away from the drinks and DOWN THE WATER

          HAVE FUN :hug :hug

Also either before you go or once you are on board seek out the catering manager and explain just what you can eat and ask him/her to help you stay on plan.

They would help out someone with diabetes or allergies to certain foods so there is no reason they can't help you out. After all you are allergic to sugar/flour/potatoes/rice etc - they might bring you out in fat!!!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

They do offer diabetic diets for the main meals. Do you think these would work? or at least be safer??

Ask them what their diabetic alternatives contain - you may find non-atkins ingredients included.
Also ask if they offer low-carb alternatives.

Ive been on four cruises in the past 14 months and have screwed up every time. However when i get back its back to induction and its a good month to get back to normal and get the weight back down.
Although you shouldnt have to fall off on both royal caribbean and holland america they offer a low carb selection for every catagory ie... apitizer, salad, entree, desert. They realy don't work out to what we do on atkins but its mutch better than the other offerings on board.
I do great first day or two with the food but when i get on one of the islands the tropical drinks do me in and then i just figure oh well i'll take care of it when i get back and then when i get back it SUCKS!

not the thing you should do, i know but thats my weakness and we normally cruise with friends that used to go drinking with in my younger years and it just ends up that way.
Nothing could taste as good as I feel!
