    Hello Karen,
Yes, Brussel Sprouts are one of the veggies that are higher carb count. 1/2 cup serving steamed is 6.8 carbs, 2.0 fiber, 4.7 net carbs. This veggie is best eaten if one is having a difficult time getting there carb count up throughout the day. A great veggie to add once moving onto OWL RUNG 1 Veggies, especially if you follow the 5 carb rule.

          Karen,
Have you read DANDR 2002? It's a must have if you're doing Atkins.
It's important that you understand this way of eating (woe) when doing Atkins. You will be moving up Rungs ( a food ladder).
          Induction (two weeks)
          Rung 1 Veggies
          Rung 2 Dairy
          Rung 3 Nuts and seeds
          Rung 4 Berries
          Rung 5 Wine and spirits
          Rung 6 Legumes
Rung 7 Fruits other than berries and melons
          Rung 8 Starchy vegetables
          Rung 9 Whole grains.
You will spend at least four weeks on each Rung, gradually reintroducing foods from that rung back into your woe. This is how you will find out what foods you are tollerant or intollerant to.
You can go to the OWL Thread and read the Stickies to learn more about Owl and the Rungs. Please buy the book and read it. It's very key to your weightloss success to read the book and reffer to it often.
          Sincerely, Sherri

Wow, I'm glad I read that. I was under the assumption each rung lasted a week...yikes.

You are correct - in DANDR Dr Atkins says
Each week you'll go up another level, adding another 5gram increment until eventually you'll reach a number at which you stop losing.
However many people prefer to climb the rungs slower so they can experiment and find out how different foods on each rung (Dr A calls them 'levels' btw) affect them as well as seeing if they continue to lose weight.

I stayed on the first rung for a few weeks, adding several extra 5 net carbs before moving to the next rung where I only did one week as all I wanted to add was yogurt.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
