  • Splenda and Jello

I am bit confused. I did Atkins about 6 years ago with success. I lost about 40 lbs but then went off and gained about 10 lbs. At that time, I counted diet soda and splenda as zero carbs.

I have just started back again after losing 150 lbs on weight watchers (i've stalled for a year on WW and want to try something else). However, I find myself frustrated with the new restrictions on amounts of cheese per day and the counting of splenda as 1 for a teaspoon. I drink 1 can of soda a day and usually 2 bottles of Fruit2O so that is costing me 5 carbs a day which is a lot to me.

Also do you count carbs for sugar free jello now because of the Splenda??

Being not a big meat or egg eater, I find this much more difficult with the new restrictions. But my body has definitely changed since losing so much weight so I don't know if not counting the carbs in splenda would effect me.

    Ideas, suggestions?

    hello,

I lost about 45IB's 2 years ago, and i never put any restriction on the cheese i ate, i drank diet coke as well, i lost the weight in about 3-4 months so those things did not restrict me, I the book used was the one with the orange cover, Dr Atkins NDR, if i recall correctly suger free jelly was on the free foods list.....i could be wrong though

but certainly those things did not effect my weight loss,

The restrictions on diet soda are more to break unhealthy habits than to deprive someone. I have never been much of a soda person, but there are tons of folks on this plan who had a 24 day diet soda addition. For optimun weight loss, we suggest that you follow the first two weeks of induction to the letter, purge yourself of any bad food habits. Then having a diet soda every once in awhile is fine if you don't mind putting those chemicals into your system. For some of us, its a coffee addition.
This is not a diet but a way of living for the rest of our healthy lives and healthy should be underscored and bolded.

you have your sweetener info wrong it is 1 carb per pack as the packets of all Artificial Sweetner contain bulking agents with carbs in them dextrose and something else. Liqid Splenda which is what is used in artifically sweetened already made foods and drinks has 0 carbs.

That being said. you have the 3 a sweeteners a day limit to break your habits of having sweets all the time. As Dr Atkins said so well swets and desserts are occasional treats not everyday events.

you didn't have long term succes on Atkins on your version of Atkins so that should tell you you need a change in the program. you are a different person right now with 180 pounds lost. you have a different metabolism and body make up too so your going ot have a didfferent experience with your Atkins this time. SO you can have the best long term success try doing it the way Dr Atkins wrote it out for you with boith the eating and exercise parts of the program. We got an exercise challenge in the Century Club id you'd like to join us.
