  • When did you notice...

    Hi everyone,

I am new to this board and this is my first post. I started Atkins, or what I thought was Atkins, last Tuesday when I went on a business trip for the week. I got home Friday night and hadn't really lost anything, I think a pound or so. The next day (Saturday), I had read more info online and realized I hadn't been doing everything properly (I thought veggies & cheese were unlimited) and then I did the right thing and went out and bought the book. So, Saturday was when I started following the plan acurately, and I am on day 5 (9 if you count my last week).

I finally made my hubby hide the scale, because I haven't noticed a big difference yet, and I thought I'd ask you all when you first noticed a decent loss? First few days? After the first week? After the 14 day inuction?

I'm not sure where to post this, so I will post it here and in OWL in hopes to get some answers from you all!

    Thanks for your help!

Most people will recommend that you don't weight until your 14 days of induction are over. That's what I did and I had lost 6 pounds.

      Re: When did you notice...

After induction is a good time to weigh. The expected losses during two weeks of clean induction are 5-10% of the total amount you need to lose. Some people lose more (usually those who have a lot to lose), others a little less. It is really very individual.

One thing I would advise is taking measurements NOW, if you have not already done so. I didn't do that at the very begining - I wimped out cos I was scared of what I'd see!! - and am really sorry now that I didn't.

        Re: When did you notice...

I noticed some during induction but it really kicked in when I started swimming. By the end of six weeks, even though I had only lost about 10 pounds, I had lost 15.3 inches. Be sure and measure yourself because the scale isn't always kind. You can go up a pound and be down an inch. It is better to go down that inch because you know you are losing that fluffy fat and you might have gained a pound of muscle from working out. Also, your body adjusts after losing fat and your body fluctuates while it is deciding to finally let go of it.

I know I am probably giving you more information than you asked for but I was the person who was so excited because I was getting smaller and smaller then got on the scale and didn't see that much difference and it made me cry. Some people can weigh every day, that works for them. I am not one of them. I have been trying to get it under control and I weigh once a week, same day and same time each time. Also, taking pictures really helps. A lot of times you can see a much bigger difference in the way you look than what you see in that number on the scale.

        GOOD LUCK!

Weigh AFTER. I didn't but wish I had because I tortured myself on that thing.......however, I saw weight loss 3 days in.

              Re: When did you notice...

i have a difficult time recognizing weight loss just by looking at myself in the mirror, but it took me until about my current weight [164-168] to really acknowledge a difference.

generally i was a snug size 13 in junior bottoms, and hadn't noticed any real change except for my current pants being a little baggy in the leg region, and then i went to a department store just to try some stuff on for fun and determined that i am now actually a size 11.

[however, i still prefer the bagginess of my size 13 pants, lol.]

i also noticed that i've lost quite a bit of baggage from my torso because of the way things like tank tops fit. they were horrifying last summer but now i wear them and my love handles have shrunk tremendously.

but i would recommend waiting awhile to really worry about it... you could be losing just water weight at first, and our bodies are in a tremendous state of flux all the time. i have been "stalled" before, only to find that i was still losing inches, just not weight, so it wasn't really a stall. patienceee.

                Re: When did you notice...

I did a squeaky clean induction and did not weigh at all until the 15th day and lost 10 pounds during that time. Only weigh once per week since--I mostly track my losses through clothing and I am currently down from an 18W in jeans to a comfortable 14. I have bought stuff (mostly at Goodwill since it is transition clothing) that is horrifyingly too tight and too small but every week it comes CLOSER to fitting which shows me that I am losing fat and inches.

I also have to say that my DH reminds me daily of the changes in my body--he just rubs his hands up and down and tells me how he can tell that I am losing weight, getting my curves back and that he is so proud of me.
