  • spaghetti squash question

Forgive me for not putting this in the food chat board but I'm making it for dinner tonight and I'm trying to decide if I should cook up both halves, or save a half so I'm hoping for answers quickly LOL

My question is this: does spaghetti squash warm up well later or does it turn in to a mushy lump? If it does reheat OK, any tips?

I make a whole one all the time and reheat the leftovers..it microwaves fine.

Not sure how well it keeps uncooked once it's been cut in half actually?

No, it's a squash. It's on the 1 cup veggie list. If I did it right, here's a pic:

and BTW, just got done eating. YUMMY!! I placed chicken breast slices over it and topped with an alfredo sauce :joy

What is the best way to cook it? I saw some in the grocery store that I go to, but I didn't know how I would prepare it.

Here's a lot of info about spaghetti squash. I personally use the microwave method and never have a problem! http://www.fabulousfoods.com/feature...pagsquash.html

I cut it in half lengthwise, scooped the seeds out and boiled for 25 min in a covered pot. My Mom told me she bakes hers. When I bought it, there were microwave, baking and boiling directions on the label.

I've baked it, and it never goes stringy, but I enjoy it anyway. Perhaps I cooked it for too long.

May try steaming or boiling next time.

when I watched George Stella make his, he boiled it, but after 20-25min, he dunked it in to a cold water bath. He said that stops the cooking process and enables you to get the strings rather than regular squash. He said even after you take it out of the water it continue to cook otherwise. I placed mine in cold water for a few minutes, then dried it with a paper towel before stringing. It worked very well!

He used a fork crosswise then to take it out - basically he had cut it lengthwise, and then ran the fork down the short sides, not end to end on the long sides. I'm not sure if that part makes sense LOL.

I boiled my first one, and it wasnt good. A friend told me the same happened to her, and had better luck microwaving so I tried and have never had any trouble with it!

It was just plain nasty. It didn't taste good-almost bitter tasting and had a nasty texture.
