  • Pizza Question

Is it okay to have just the topping on a pizza, let's say just cheese and nothing else? I have about 7 carbs left to spend at this point in the evening and DH wanted to order pizza later tonight. I remember being able to do this when I did Atkins before, but I guess I just can't accept it in my mind after all these months of being on a low calorie, low fat diet. It feels so NAUGHTY! LOL

If the toppings are legal - then that's fine

      Hi.

First question, are you planning to eat this pizza because you are hungry or are you planning to eat it just to eat it? If it's due to hunger, that's one thing, but if you're eating it just to use up 7 carbs, that's not a very healthy habit to get into.

Anyhow, it's okay to eat the toppings, but you still have to stay within the daily cheese and veggie limits. Be aware that the sauce is usually pretty carby and might contain added sugar, so scrape as much off as you can.

Or you can avoid the crust temptation and do what I do... I put the cheese, pepperoni... whatever legal toppings you like.. into a square baking dish. It's a LOT cheaper than ordering a pizza and scraping off the toppings. You just can't eat a ton because cheese still has carbs.

I find that it's too hard to just eat the toppings. Once that pizza gets in my sight, I can't stop myself. But maybe that's just me.

Also, note what someone else mentioned about sugar being in the sauce. Unless it's sauce that *I* used and *I* know what's in it, I usually stay away.

I like to bake pepperoni with some cheese and a banana pepper on top -- now THAT tastes naughty.

Being too frugal, I end up hate wasting the crusts, so I would rather make a crustless one in a hurry or if I have more time, make the BikersGoddess pizza. If you want ease, just scrape as much of that sugar-laden sauce off it.

Thank you, everyone! I usually don't have a problem passing up pizza crust. There is only one pizza place that we sometimes order from that has pizza crust I would consider myself defenseless against and thankfully, we aren't ordering from there tonight!

I usually eat several small meals throughout the day instead of just three big meals (I've always functioned better that way) and I usually do have something in the evenings, say around 9:00 or 9:30. Tonight, it will be this pizza!

thwere is a post u0p on the board about this if you search you can get the links to some of the pizza places. Pizza Hut only has sugar in the big newyorker and the stuffed crust pizzas but they have TVPs in most of the meat toppings.

Thanks! That's exactly where we are ordering from tonight ... Pizza Hut! (Or "Pizza Hug" as my little girl used to call it!)

                  BTW, what are TVPs?

I went to the recipes link on here and found one using ground beef for a 'crust', with the pizza toppings. I made a smaller one than they said by using an 8x8 dish, and it was SO good. Plus, it was filling! I'll have it for lunch tomorrow, too.

If you haven't looked at the recipes, you definately should. This was the first I'd tried, and now I'll try more. Yay!
