  • Should I stay on Induction?

    Hi All,

I'm 8 days into the diet....sticking to very low carbs 12/14...I never lost anything for the first 7 days, however the scales registered 2lbs lighter this morning! At last. I want to lose 20lbs, I gained it after a major op last year and due to being on HRT.

Ok Here's the thing, I don't really like food!!! So I'm finding all this eating a real chore. I'm eating more meat than I've ever done, I love salad and veggies so nearly all my carbs are from them. Should I stay on induction longer due to time it has taken to lose such a small amount when most others seems to be able to drop the lbs easier? I just want to get back into my clothes

    Hi, Jac!

Normally one should expect to lose 5-10% of the excess weight during induction. You lost 2 pounds, so that makes 10%, which is fine.

However, you are only on day 8, so be patient. Wait until the end of the 2 weeks of induction and then weight. But I don't think you should stay longer than 2 weeks on induction. Some people lose more because they have where to lose that weight from, but 20 lbs isn't too much.

Re: Should I stay on Induction?

I agree with Georgiana, no reason to stay on induction.

There is also no reason, or benefit, in keeping your carbs extra low. Increasing them slowly as you go up OWL, and changing their sources, will make your diet much more varied and less unappetising for you. Since you are finding the food hard now, you are much more likely to stick to it and lose your weight if you have that variety.

The fact that you are on HRT is not, I assume, going to change too soon, so it is very important that you not just lose, but learn to keep the weight you lose off in your new reality. You learn very little about how YOU can eat on induction and an enormous amount on OWL, so that's another benefit of moving on.

Doing OWL properly, going up the rungs slowly, introducing each 'new' food gradually while being consious of it's particular effect on you, learning just how many carbs you can eat while losing/maintaining your weight is enormously beneficial and rewarding. It really does help you to formulate an eating plan precisely tailored to your body. It's too valuable an opportunity to miss.

And by the way you don't have to eat a lot of meat. I probably eat meat an average of once a day, occasionally twice. There are lots of other sources of protein.
