  • How much loss possible in...?

    HEY!

I know people lose weight differently than others...but how much can a guy look to lose in 4 and a half to 5 months of strict atkins and a workout routine?

I started today and I am going to do this as strict as I can do it. I already lift weights 3 times a week and am going to now add in cardio 3-5 days a week.

I have set a goal for July 5th. I know I won't lose all 92 pounds by then that I want to lose...but If I could lose 30-40 pounds that would be alright if I kept my cardio training up I think I would be in a lot better shape.

Anybody have some information that has done it this long and can remember how much they lost?

    Thanks...!

Like you said everyone is different... my advice would be to just push yourself, eat clean, workout, drink lots of water and see what YOUR body will do. Having a goal is a wonderful thing but wondering/questioning/worrying about that goal and if the weight loss is happening fast enough sometimes will lead to self sabotage.

There was a great post here today by Supertramp about following the program, knowing your doing your best and allowing your body to respond without stressing/worrying about every inch and every pound. For me thats the hardest thing to do when losing weight...I am the definition of a scale slave and sometimes allow it to affect my moods for the day. But it really isn't worth it :nono

Keep clean, workout hard, check in here frequently for support and advice and drink your water and the results WILL happen!! :yes

    Happy low carbing! :hug

REmember too, that if you're doing weights, you're going to build muscle, which is heavier than fat. You may want to focus on inches, and body shape rather than pounds as you progress. :yes

I bet that once you start this WOE you will be pleased with the results but will also start looking more at the long-term. I have a smilar amount to lose and hoped that I could do half of it in around five months. Now I'm not to bothered about the timescale, as long as I get there in the end and I know I will

        Good luck!

I'm sure you would be able to lose 40-50 lbs @ least. I've lost 27 lbs and it hasn't even been 2 full months. I've set a goal to be @ 199 by the end of July. It seemed so far away and so much to lose, but I only have 39 more lbs in 5 months. It is possible. As well most men lose weight faster than women. GOOD LUCK!!

I would think that 40 - 50 lbs is achievable in the timescale.
I have lost 30lbs in just under 2 months. The losses will slow down, but I reckon, stalls aside, that I can lose another 15 - 20lbs in the next 2-3 months.
If you are building, though, through exercise, the weight loss might be slower as you will be increasing your muscle mass as well.

Earlier advice applies here. Keep a tab on the inches. Use www.mybodycomp.com to log your measurements and compare them once a month.

            And Good luck.

I have been lucky to lose 22 lbs. by my 4 week anniversary - which is today, so I would say 40-50 is more than possible. However, I am not weight training - just jogging 2-3 times per week.

You could easily lose (well not 'easily') around 55 POUNDS ... but about 10-15 pounds could very well be water. So around 45 pounds of FAT! :joy That is the nature of ALL low carb diets. Most of the nations top experts agree that 2-3 pounds a week is a "good" weight loss and I agree with that also as there have been studies that have shown that losing more than 2-3 pounds of FAT per week is nearly impossible and is most likely LBM and that is NOT good as your metabolism will slow down when you lose LBM instead fat. Good luck and enjoy atkins!

Wonderwall Im in the same boat you are...... I need to lose atleast 40 pounds by the end of June for a special event and Im sure if we both put our minds to it, we can both accomplish it. Granted its not my ultimate goal, but its one I've set for myself for now.

Lots of water, no carbs, and NO CHEATING :nono Oh and of course exercise........ Why is that always the last thing on my mind????

                    Goodluck!!!!! :hug

I'm sure you could at least lose 40-50 lbs. by then. If you are lifting alot, the muscle you put on will affect some weight loss. But, that is ok, since building muscle is great for fat-burning anyway!

Exactly! Even though she is building muscle which ways more than fat, that muscle she is gaining is also going to burn fat! Gotta love muscle!

definately possible...with muscle weight gain even you will lose 10-15 lbs a month...hard not to. And better yet after you lose the fat your body will look waaaaay better if you weight train!
