Ketosis should keep you from being hungry.
    Are you eating enough fats?
    Are you eating enough calories?
Are you eating anything with sugars (artificial sweeteners and sugar alcohols for that matter)?
    Are you using caffeinated products?
Are you going no more than 6 waking hours without eating?

Review your menues and see what's going on.

Oh, Yeah, that describes me also. I can not eat all day and then at night I just want to pig out. The thing is, I'm not hungry at all, I think I'm just bored. I used to sit in front of the tv and eat a gallon of ice cream, now I have to find something else to do. The urge to eat late at night has gone away some on Atkins, but still there. I just try to have some handy snacks around, and lately I have been walking my dog at night so it keeps my mind off of eating.

for me it's boredom, or emotional eating when I get like that. I also think if person is not eating enough during the day, by night their body is yelling for food, so make sure you eat decently during the day even if you do't feel like it.

Yeah ... Im in ketosis ... I ate 2 chicken breasts and 1 1/2 fish filets so I think the fat is up there along with the calories. I drink about 80-100oz water a day. I drink no diet pop and once a day I might have 1 glass of diet ice tea (sweetened with splenda). The only thing with sugar I eat is probably the veggies (broccoli, greenbeans, and lettuce)

Chicken breast and fish are lean meats they are also relatively low calorie, when compared to red meats. Are you eating added fats with them?

Plug your numbers into fitday.com to see what your percentages are. It's the fat, not the protein, that makes you feel "full" because fat takes a bit longer to digest than protein or carbs.

              Boredom

I fall victim to the same "starvation attack," that creeps in once the sun goes down.

I definitly believe boredom has alot to do with it. I also have a long history of mindlessly snacking while I play on the computer, or watch TV - definitly part of the reason I am in the postion I am in today.

I also think it depends on what I eat during the day. If I have a day particularly low in fat, I tend to be hungry later. I try and drink a glass of water first when I feel like I am starving - I kind of want to verify that I am indeed hungry, and not just feeling the need for an oral fixation. If after 30 minutes I am still hungry, then I eat a small snack.

yep chicken breast and fish are high protein low fat and we convert excess proteins to sugars for storage as fats and in the process that sugar from protein will raise the insulin levels stopping the fat burning and give you hunger as the blood sugar swings back down before the fats for fuel acan restart. That is why Dr Atkins says his plan will not work of you eat your proteins too high 30% of your total cals should be proteins 65% of them in the forms of healthy fats. those doing extended induction will find the fats a bit higher and the proteins a slight bit higher as you don't have 5% carbs unless you are eating about 1600 cals.

                  boredem for sure

yeah i start feeling that way usually when i am sitting in front of the tv late at night. i think it is mostly habit really. it has gotten better since starting atkins, but the urge to grab a snack is still there sometimes. i find that if i keep a glass of water next to me, and everytime i feel bored or want to eat something i just drink and drink! :yes

If you eat more fat with dinner you'll find yourself to be slightly less hungry. I know that I eat my carbs closer to the beginning of the day or else I get more hungry in the evening if the fat content isn't high enough.

Time to start hugging a jar of mayonnaise and licking the butter, baby!

Kudos to y'all who said you want to eat out of habit at night! Recognizing triggers is one of the many ways you will be successful on this way of eating-- and night-time snacking is a definite problem for many, many people!

I had a bison burger and a spinach salad for supper last night and discovered it was too light in the fat department. i was still hungry an hour later so had a little cream chees sweetened with splenda and that did the trick. oddly enough i seem to be half a pound up this morning so i think i didn't drink enough water last night either (i fell asleep with the water bottle beside me before i could down another 16 oz). I'll be making up for that today.

I'm right there with ya, but then again, my 'other way' of eating was 95% evening eating; many times, dinner would be my FIRST meal of the day.

The problem is, I ate non-stop then until I fell into bed.

Old habits are hard to break.

I save my pork rind w/cream cheese dip treat now for evenings.

It's working so far, until I burn myself out on the pork rinds, then I'll resort to gnawing off the table legs in the house or something. :yikes

For me, snacking was a habit and one that I'm managing to break. If I feel hungry at night, I drink water or tea. Go figure ... I guess I wasn't hungry after all ... it usually subsides.
