Hubs and I have been eating Atkins style since April 1st. We have added just a few more veggies and a few nuts. At lunch time I cooked two medium sized chicken breasts with cabbage, beansprouts, a little red and yellow pepper, mushrooms, celery in a stir fry with soy sauce. Although I cooked this with oil I suddenly thought, this is not a good thing to cook as it contains very little fat but quite a lot of protien. The carbs were ok I used only the amounts we should have but I am worried about the fat content. What should I do? Drink a glug of oil? I will be excersising this afternoon.

Re: Oooops, I think I went low fat,
Atkins says most people do not really eat an excess of fat on this diet because you are not really that hungry. I don't eat fat just to eat it, but I don't try to weed it out of my meal ieither.
The one thing I am doing differently that seems to be making a difference this time around istraking Carbs, Fat, Protean AND Calories. I actually stay around 1500-1700 most days, but do not obsess if I go over because it's not calories that I am as concerned with. Atkins did say though that you will lose faster on a lower calorie low carb plan than on a high calorie low carb plan. I wouldn't worry about it.

Your meal sounded fine
Not every meal needs to be "perfect"- maybe next time you could add a drizzle of Olive Oil..but I wouldnt by any means stress over it :<)

Re: Oooops, I think I went low fat,
Thank you for your answers. You know I don't usually get stress, but when you are responsible for A Nother (my husband) it worries me sometimes that he has great faith in me and trusts that when I put it on the plate it is good to eat and moreover it is Atkins. Thanks again.

Re: Oooops, I think I went low fat,
I think when you are feeling like you have the munchies and want to cheat...eating the extra fat is what helps.. I know when I am on induction I eat a lot of beef.. the fat in beef is what gets me over the I am starving and want sugar stage.. But then as I go on I eat more and more chicken

Re: Oooops, I think I went low fat,
Sandy I know what you mean a piece of steak with a few mushrooms got us through induction also. I have to admit I almost enjoy induction because I am in control of what we can eat because I have it written down.
Sometimes I feel it would be a good idea to follow a diet menu. But of course I could put one of those together myself, food that we both enjoy and are LEGAL and meals that contain the correct carbs and fats. Sounds easy, but a little time consuming.
By the way Sandy you look great, and your pictures are a great inspiration. You are a very attractive lady who can only get more stunning.-

Re: Oooops, I think I went low fat,
One way of making it easier to plan menus is to use somehting like www.fitday.com
You can log the foods you intend to use for meals and see how the numbers stack up in advance so you can alter quantities to get them better.Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
Check out our Low Carb Recipes website and add to it!!

Re: Oooops, I think I went low fat,
Sandy, thats genius. I'm re-inducting and I think I inadvertantly keep going too low fat (as far as when I track my ratios between carbs/protein/fat) and I've noticed I feel much more hungry.
But you're right. Beef makes me happy - because I'm satisfied longer.Start: 162.0 | Current: 161.0 | Goal: 120 | Age/Height: 25/4'9" | RESTART DATE: 09-01-2008 | PHASE: Induction

Re: Oooops, I think I went low fat,
I am getting braver, with the support of people like yourselves, I am trying out recipes. For instance I made some cheese cakes today with cream cheese, egg, artificial sweetner a little vanilla extract and baked the mixture for twenty minutes in muffin tins lined with muffin papers. They taste brilliant and I think if I had chilled the mixture I could have eaten it like ice cream.
I have also been eating some peanuts which are very high in fibre but not so high in carbs, they do the trick for keeping me "regular". I have also been making my own beef burgers and adding lots of flavours like garlic, onion, hot chillie peppers or even a little worcestershire sauce.
This really is a very nice place to be.
