    Re: Motivational Tools

Pictures of myself that really show my size are helpful. Help to remind me why I am doing it. Try to eat something else yammy (but legal) if some craving hit has also helped me.

And if you are getting bored with your diet, it may be a sign that you need to move to OWL. I started over last week and I know I will move to OWL as soon as the 2 weeks are over. It is exciting to move up the ladder and you forget about stuff you cannot eat and concentrate on stuff you can eat.

          Re: Motivational Tools

I practice a lot of positive thinking. When I first started out, I wrote up a goal contract and read and signed it every day. When I was really wanting to cheat, I had it posted on the fridge door with magnets where I would have to move it to get to the food I didn't need to eat.

I looked at some of the things I did that caused me to eat mindlessly, and made rules to prevent doing that. I had to eat at the table--no more eating in front of the computer or in bed. I set the table with a nice place setting with a good view. I made my meals attractive to look at as well as consume. I practiced cutting small bites and then putting down my cutlery between bites, giving my entire attention to the taste, smell and mouth-feel of each bite. As soon as I finished eating, I immediately put up the leftover foods and cleaned up the dishes. I have been known to keep picking at leftovers until the pot is empty. I made a cut-off time to finish eating for the night and stuck to it. Once I start eating after dinner, I don't want to stop.

Lots of little things add up to big changes. Keeping at it for a long time makes the changes permanent. It takes some real delving into why we eat in a way that makes us gain weight, and then we need to make a plan to change those things for the better. It takes some effort, but nothing worth having comes without effort on our part.

          Sunny!
People who say it can't be done, should not interrupt those doing it.

"Some men give up their designs when they have almost reached the goal; While others, on the contrary, obtain a victory by exerting, at the last moment, more vigorous efforts than ever before."

              Re: Motivational Tools

I also use progress pics to keep me going. There are times when the scale won't move and I get frustrated but then I'll see what I "USED" to look like and I get inspired to push a little harder.
I keep a small journal with me. I jot down what I eat, how much I drink, what kind of exercise I do and anything weight loss related. I can look back and see for myself why I may or may not have been losing at certain times. This allows me to tweak things and design a better plan for myself if I begin to get sloppy. I also admit I love looking at the before and after pics here on ADBB- I even go to the older pics where the links have been closed. Hay...a loss is a lost and I'll get my inspiration where ever I can

                  Re: Motivational Tools

Motivational tools? Ah yes, the pictiure of me pre-fat days from 10 years ago or so. That helps. The custom made suit I had made special for me that hasnt fit in ages. Isnt in style anymore but would be nice to fit into once more. That's also good motivation. And the bible. I ask the Lord to give me strength, and he does. Hope this helps. God Bless, Joe
