  • Is this TOO much protein? I heard excess protein turns to

    turns to fat???

I sometimes think, despite still using Mayo and olive oil and dressing for the fats, I'm eating too much protein? Or am I worrying over nothing?

    Sample day:

    BREAKFAST -
    2-3 eggs
    2 strips of turkey bacon
    1 ounce cheese

    LUNCH -
    Can of tuna
    2 tbsp. Mayonnaise
    Celery, chopped up in tuna
    10 pork rinds
    1 ounce cheese

    DINNER -
    Chicken
    1.5 cups of salad
    1 tbsp. dressing
1 cup steamed broccoli w/ butter

So is that TOO much protein?? The 3 eggs, the tuna for lunch, and the chicken for dinner??

Should I incorporate more RED MEATS into my meals? I have ground beef about 2-3 days a week, usually for dinner, but I try not to have it any more than that. Basically, I love chicken more than red meat, Atkins has made me fall in love with chicken :nod

    Thanks
    I'm gonna start loving me.

well actually before that excess protein can be stored as fat it has to be converted to sugars to be stored as fat and there is were that Atkins problem with too much protein comes into play. you need to move your foods to your free fitday account and see if 1 you have tot many total cals for the day for you and are gaining not losing and 2 is your ratio the correct ketogenic Atkins ratio for you most use 6o-65% fats the proteins stay 30% for all of your Atkins so see where yours are and then youwill know if you have too much or not for you.

A portion of the excess proteins will be excreted out as urine, and as 2big said, the remainder will be converted into glucose first. This said, you didn't put amounts, percentages, or daily g's, but if your diet 30% protein you should be fine. The exception is if you are doing weight training. You need additional amino acids to replace the muscle that you are breaking down in training. The numbers I have seen for weight trainers is .8-1.2g per kilogram of body weight.

As adding for red meats into your meal, I'd say only if you want to or are hungry for them. They provide an excellent source of proteins and fat. As for the saturated fats in red meats, their effects on a body and cholesterol are greatly overhyped IMHO. The beauty of Atkins is that allows for taste in food selection. No one will ever tell you that you have to eat this vegetable or this steak in order to lose weight on the diet. Eat whatever acceptable foods you would liked in the amounts prescribed the rules.

oops missed you meat part actually if you plug those steaks into fit day you will see that have mixed fats and are not pure saturated fat they got mono, poly and saturated with the saturated being under 30% for moist cuts of meat.

Actually with your Atkins you should hav all the protein you need and dispite what the body buliders would have you believe you need to be degrading proteins to build muscle tissues as that is how the enzyme for building muslce is activated With your atkins you will have al the protein you need.
When beginning the Atkins plan, dieters typically eat about 2 grams of animal protein for each gram of body weight, says Colette Heimowitz, director of education and research for Atkins Nutritionals. That means a woman weighing 150 pounds would consume about 135 grams of protein each day
. Check and see if you don't have that going on for you. I'm sure it was a typo and should be kg of body weight http://aolsvc.health.webmd.aol.com/c...e/62/71623.htm
