  • Fat intake ???

    Hello,
I was just wondering does fat intake matter? I seem to be eating a lot of high fat foods? I was just wondering about the caloric intake and such, how does it affect me in extended induction.

    Any input would be great!

    Re: Fat intake ???

Yes, you're supposed to get 65% fat, 30% fiber and 5% carbs from your food. That means it DOES matter how much fat you obtain. And it's not an obligatory to count your daily calories, but still you can keep them on track to see if it changes much. Balance yourself so that you don't get too much calories and neither not enough. Quite a lot people keep counting calories, because they think this can improve their weight loss. For some, maybe, but don't bother about calories too much. Make sure you get all the fat you need, eat your vegetables, drink lots of water, don't stuff yourself with more calories than your body needs & you'll rock.

This is a diet where we are supposed to eat a lot of fat so it sounds like you are doing it right. If you are monitoring this on fitday the percentages should be around 65 fat, 5 carb and 30 protein when you are eating induction food. When you start to eat more carb (in OWL) the fat percentage will go down somewhat. I am on induction now and my fat is usually over 65. Does not worry me a bit.

Calories do matter somewhat. But only if we overeat. It is really hard to get too many calories following the suggestion that we only eat till we are satisfied and we have regular meals with some snacks in between.
Are you monitoring this on fitday? What numbers are you getting?

No you do not necessarily do that. On Atkins it is not good to reduce calories. The body reacts to this decrease in energy by trying to hold on to weight.

You should certainly eat a lot more than 700 calories. That is too low.

I had a hard time recently figuring out calories. My carb intake was great and my percentages were right but my calories were WAY too low! You want to try make sure your eating your BMR intake. This can be figured out by going to: BMR Calculator The BMR is how many calories you would burn if you lay in bed all day. This is the minimum amount of calories you want to consume daily. Hope that helps!

Don't worry too much about calories, particularly in induction (or extended). The important thing is to eat to plan and to satisfy your appetite (no more, no less). If you do that, drink lots of water, exercise and take your sups you'll do fine.

When you get towards maintenance you might find yourself keeping an eye on the calories a little, but the main focus should always be on carbs, even then.

Dont worry about the calories. Only eat till you arte satisfied, not full. And drink lots and lots of water. Good Luck. God Bless, Joe

                    Re: Fat intake ???

Hey ladies - I have a question. I would like to know where the 65% fat, 30% protien, 5% carb ratio came from. I can't find it in the book. Most people talking about it have lost a significant amount of weight so I am not doubting it - I am just trying to verify the source.
I have lost 9 lbs - but it has been SLOW to come off. I realize that I am moving in the right direction and weight loss is not linear - I just get frustrated at times. I hired a personal trainer 2 months ago - we meet once a week to box and do MMA (a very hard workout) and I am also doing spin at least 2 additional days a week (and I power through the class like a champ). I am doing extended induction and am losing a lot of inches (5" chest - 2" waist - etc) but the weight is coming off at a turtle pace. I track every morsel on "Kathleen's Diet Planner 14.6" (which I highly recommend) as well as exercise and ketosis levels etc.
I know some of you are going to read this and think I'm retarded as I am losing inches and weight. I am just doubting my methods a bit (i.e. not counting calories, fat ratio, etc) as the results seem slow relative to my efforts.

                    Measurements Progress:

Your lower abdomen has decreased by 7.5 in.
Your buttocks/hips have decreased by 7 in.
Your chest has decreased by 10 in.
                    Your height has not changed.
Your neck has decreased by 1 in.
Your rightbicep has decreased by 2 in.
Your rightCalf has decreased by 2.5 in.
Your rightforearm has decreased by 1 in.
Your right thigh has decreased by 4 in.
Your waist has decreased by 6 in.
Your right wrist has not changed.

                      Re: Fat intake ???

I think that ratio comes form Colette Heimowitz. She worked with Atkins and still works with the Atkins Nutr. Inc. She based these numbers on analysis of the kind of recommendations Atkins made for induction.
