  • No weight loss in over 2months and now feeling very tired all the time...help!!

    Hi Guys,

I have written on this website many times. I have currently been on the atkins a little over 2 months. I have only cheated once and got back on the next day over a month ago. I have tweaked my diet so many times to be accurate as possible. I have stayed in the induction phase for the majority of the time and for the last few weeks have tried moving up with adding a few more veggie carbs into OWL.

I felt the OWL was not helping me so I went back to induction. I went out and bought a scale(gram/ounces). It is helped me immensely. I realized that I was eating to many veggies using the cup method.

Here is my problem. Ever since I bought the scale and have been so accurate I have had no energy whatsoever. From the minute I wake up I am exhausted. I get 8 hrs of sleep. I actually scare myself driving. I don't even want to go on my break at work bc it involves moving. I feel like I am in the clouds and my brain is functioning like I am starving it. I get a good deal of fat, at least 70%. I eat 200 calories over my basal met. rate(is that the right term?) which is 1900. Here is my fitday diet so you can look at it.

    http://www.fitday.com/WebFit/PublicJournals.html?Owner=tara5578

I do not know what I am doing wrong. I take so MANY vitamins, potassium, magnesium, L-Carmitine, etc everyday.

I do not want to add more carbs in if possible bc I really want to actually see weight loss but I am really scared. I have never felt this way before. It has been going on for about a week. Up until now I have never experienced this on the Atkins. I am seeing a doctor on Tuesday to have a physical. I am thinking of switching to the South Beach Diet. I don't know why I cannot lose weight on this diet. I feel like I have actually gained inches especially in my stomach. It feels so full all the time but I never over eat. I feel so bloated and it will hurt after eating a very fatty meal. I so so disappointed and frustrated!!

I weight 180. am 30 yrs old and 5'8. I drink at least 100 fl oz a day. I cannot work out due to a failed back surgery. I was really hoping this diet would help me lose weight I have put on since my surgery.

ANY advice would be greatly appreciated!! I do not want to quit this diet but I am beside myself right now.

    Thanks!

    Tara,
your fit day menu sure looked fine to me. Could it be a food allrgy tht is stalling you and making you feel this way?

To my knowledge no. I have never had any allergies before and have not changed my diet too much in these 2 months

        Hello,
It would be a good idea that you go to your physician and get some lab work done. I'm glad to hear you're going Tuesday. I believe he'll have the answers. Just make sure he checks your thyroid, okay? It sound to me like it may be a low Thyroid. (hypothyroidism). Something I have.
Besides Lethargy and Fatigue. Other symptoms of Hypo-thyroidism is Depression, Recurrent infection, dry skin, hair loss, head aches, difficulty losing weight, sensitivity to cold and constipation.
Go get yourself checked out. I don't believe it's what you've been eating. When I turned thirty, that's when they discovered my hypo-thyroidism. Something that is controled with synthroid now. And I've successfully lost over 140 pounds.
Best of health and lite to you.
Let us know what you find out at your doctors, okay?

            Dear Tara,

I am not an expert but something blindingly jumped out to me when I read your post and I read it three times to make sure I was getting all the information.
I agree that you need to go see the doctor. But see if any of this makes sense too.

I am on day 42 of extended induduction.
Did you get exhausted (I mean couldn't get out of a chair), blinding headaches, leg cramps, constipation, really flaky like you start a sentence and three words in you forget what you were talking about, during your first two weeks of induction?

Well girl you are doing through induction now!! I had all these sypmtoms my first week and it was ****.
I think you have been mucking around with the diet too much for the past 8 weeks and now you have a scale your carbs are where they need to be you are finally in the real induction stage and you feel like crap. Hey that's great.
After two weeks I felt amazing, so amazing I stayed on induction, I'm like the enigizer bunny.

I was frustrated because the scale had not moved in three weeks but I was told on the boards that there is this thing called swooosh, where you suddenly loose after a couple of weeks.
You and I have about the same stats.

Keep your chin up, I am sending you vibes.

Tara, I'm sorry you're having such a hard time.

I would have to say that it's time to see your doctor, too. You *should* be losing.

Food allergies can manifest themselves in ways that people don't normally consider an "allergic reaction". most of the time food allergy (or intolerances might be a better word) manifest themselves in making someone feel HUNGRIER or they might make you retain water.

One telltale sign that you are retaining water and might be eating something that is causing you problems is to press your thumb into your shin for a second or two. When you remove your thumb, if there is an indent in your leg and it stays...that's water retention. It's actually called "pitting adema"

Hey there, Just a curious question? Have you checked to see what fillers are in your vitamins? Some capsules actually have to be counted according to one site I read. Also, and this was news to me, you have to count artificial sweeteners, like one carb per diet soda? Correct me guys if I am wrong.

Re: No weight loss in over 2months and now feeling very tired all the time...help!!

Thank you guys for all your help and support.
I cannot at this time go to the doctor(had to cancel due to finances) so I am just going to keep searching. I do not feel as much fatigue as I did last week. Because I bought and scale(and was suggested) the tiredness might have been bc I was accurately measuring my veggie's and am getting less now.

The other thing I am looking into is Candida. My stomach has been so uncomfortable for the past few weeks. It has progressively been getting more and more uncomfortable. This happen right after eating a meal and lasts for hours. I feel extremely bloated and have to burb constantly. My stomach is very distended and it bothers me a great deal. I really hope this diet has not caused Candida. I never had this problem before going on the Atkins.

Does anyone else have Candida problems? It would make sense to me why I have not lost any weight.

                    Thanks,

                    Tara

Atkins is GOOD for helping to starve candida, not cause it.

Candida thrives on sugar (fructose, lactose, sucrose, etc.) and vinegar and moldy foods.

                        I am no expert either
But I do know that there are over 39 symptoms believed to be linked to candida..from Athletes foot to Sensitivity to fragrances...

                          Tara,

I am new to this forum and pretty new to Atkins, but as a nurse, I am concerned about your complaints of stomach pain and bloating after eating.
It could be gallbladder trouble, which flares up typically after ingesting a fatty meal. It is very important that you see your doctor. Try to notice if the pain is less or absent if you consume a meal that is very low fat. Not trying to scare you, but you really should make it a priority to see your doctor if at all possible.

Tara, there is an entire Candida thread under the Atkins for Health forum. They may have some good information for you. I agree with Tina. Your symptoms may be gall bladder. Definitely try to get that checked out. If it is gb, this WOE will aggravate it.
