  • Zero Carb Isopure: When is It Allowed?

    Hi,
I have a big tub of zero carb isopure protein powder that I bought a while back and I was just wondering when I can use it. Its made from whey protein isolate. I know its not allowed during induction but can I use it on extended induction? If not then when? Thanks!

Extended Induction is not really a phase of Atkins but the rules for extending your induction would be exactly the same as for the first 14 days of it.

If you want to add foods from the OWL rungs you really need to move to OWL.

Whey products would become 'legal' on the dairy rung (#2) of OWL, although some people do use the pure isolates (not all protein powders are pure isolates) on induction on the assumption that as they contain very little other than protein they would not affect their weightloss.

However this is one of those 'your mileage may vary' (aka YMMV) things so you would have to risk it and try if you really want to.

However do bear in mind that Atkins is not a 'high protein' way of eating and that if you added a lot of extra protein to your meals/snacks you could be risking any excess protein being turned into glucose as Dr Atkins said could happen.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

      Hi,
Thanks for the info! I guess I will wait on that one. My weight hasn't moved in about three weeks now so I don't want to add anything questionable.

But if I recall correctly you have been losing inches.

So you are not in a stall or plateau, so I see no reason for you to still be on induction. With about 23 pounds left to lose, if you are not careful you might not have the time to spend enough time on OWL to work through the rungs before needing to move to premaintenance (Dr Atkins wanted us to do this by the last 5-10 pounds).

Doing OWL properly takes quite a long time and it is easier to see if your weight/inches lost are affected by the foods you add and discover your CCLL if you are not too close to goal (when losses normally slow down anyway)

Thanks for the advice Elizellen. I think I am nervous about starting OWL just because when I was on South Beach and I moved into phase 2 I completely blew it. I know this is totally different but its hard not to compare. Based on what you said I guess its time though. I think I will start Monday to give myself time to prepare. Thanks so much! You always give really helpful and informative answers.
