  • Going to the BBQ Cookoff tomorrow

Well for those of you in Houston i'm going to the Rodeo BBQ cookoff tomorrow. Tons of fun...bbq and loads of beer. This will be the true test. Most of my friends are going with us and they know i'm on this diet plus they know my progress thus far. All of them keep telling me that i should just go ahead and have fun drink a couple beers just eat the bbq no sauce etc. I just havent decided if I want to jeorpdize what i have done so far.

If I do drink a couple what do you think it would do? I have lost 14 lbs thus far and I hate to gain anything back with just for 1 night of having fun with the crowd.

Don't do it! One night can lead to 100 more nights. Take your water bottle and an induction food list. PLAN, PLAN, PLAN. Stay true to this WOE and you will feel wonderful at your success. :yes

Well I would take the opportunity to decide beforehand what you are going to do. If you do decide to drink, be aware that you will be burning alcohol for fuel until it is consumed, which could be a number of hours before your body starts burning fat for fuel. The other thing to be concerned about is most dry rubs contain sugar (brown) as a a key component, so even just eating it dry might not be enough. Certainly, Atkins isn't meant to eliminate the good times in your life, but following it strictly will indeed change it.

If you think these BBQ's will happen more often perhaps getting to Alcohol rung of OWL in the near future would be adviseable. That way you have consciously and deliberately brought alcohol back, and will have already nailed down its effects.

I dont plan on doing this very often. Actually this is really the only thing that i would probably do until possibly Memorial Day. The Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo BBQ cookoff is once a year. We are on the committe for one of the cooking teams. One of the guys there told me they got Michelob Ultra especially for me.

If i do decide to cheat....i really dont know if i will or not as of yet i Do only plan on having may 3-4 THAT IS IT! I dont really have a very high tolerance for alcohol so that wont be an issue.

This WOE is the way I want to live....and plan on until i loose all the weight I want to loose. I just feel i guess guilty about cheating...i think that's it.....

        I know i'm silly....sorry i'm rambling

Just decide whether falling out of ketosis, probably gaining some weight, and having to restart is worth it to you. I just hate to see momentum lost.

But have fun and soak up the fun and environment absent the sugar and beer.

When you are alone in your head, you are in a bad neighborhood.

We went out last night for a friend's birthday dinner to one of my favorite restaurants. I was nervous before going, thinking would I have enough self control. While there, I felt like I was missing out, they all had the best looking food on their plates. I had my chicken and lettuce. Then came the cake. I had not one bite. Yeah, I felt deprived. I also felt strong. Now, today I feel GREAT!!! Because I didn't "cheat", no worries about what if....what did I do...now what. I am proud of myself, more than I can say. And probably the ones that know exactly how proud I am, are the ones who have been out with friends and just said "NO!". :dancing

That is one thing about this diet...

I don't feel that deprived at restaurants. I felt more deprived on WW--now I can eat a steak and shrimp, have a salad and not feel guilty. I couldn't have all that on WW without using all of my points.

That's just how I feel about eating in restaurants.
Once I have told the waiting staff that I am lowcarbing I am often amazed at how they pull out all the stops to offer me something legal and yummy!
I have even had the chef come out to explain just what is in the dishes to help me choose.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

The feelings I get after I have faced the high carb foods and not ate any is just empowering. I love this feeling better that the taste of the forbidden foods.

With regards to the beer - don't do it!

The first time I did Atkins, I didn't really understand it. I got to the two week point and wanted beer so badly that I went to the pub with friends and had a couple of pints. I was measuring ketosis by the strips and as soon as I got home, used one and it turned beige. I quit the WOE there and then.

I wish I had known then what I know now and I may already have been at goal for a few years instead of doing it now.

                      Have fun

well its good that your friends know.. because they will not tempt you.. but it is not their body so they dont appreciate the hardcore effort you do.. keep eating right.
