  • Bloodwork results in...

Got a call from, the Dr. this morning, they got the results of all my bloodwork back. Cholesterol is fine, blood sugar is fine...but my thyroid is off! I knew this would be the case. Years ago I found out I had hypothyroidism, but my previuos doctor continually took me off the meds as soon as my levels were within normal! I couldn't understand this because they always went back to being off again! So, I have an appointment for Monday to go over exactly what they were and get back on my meds. One more step down towards helping me on my goal to losing all this weight and my new WOL! hehe

Yes it really helps to get that sorted out. I have the same issue. Good news on the rest of the bloodwork though.

Thanks everyone. Actually I just went in today and the nurse misinformed me. My sugar level was a bit high and seeing as I was already on atkins for 2 weeks the dr wanted more blood tests. He said something about insulin resistent diabetes? I know nothing about this so I guess I should kinda research it! He put me on synthroid 50 mcg to start for now and a repeat of my TSH in 4 weeks. Oh, and I gained a pound from last mondays weigh in

Awww... sorry you had that disappointment. It's not cool when a nurse gives you wrong results.
I'm willing to bet your next bloodwork will give better blood sugar numbers though.

Hang in there with Atkins through all your tests. You'll get yourself sorted out pretty soon, I'm sure.

Hi.. It's probably likely your doc said insulin resistance? It can be a precursor to diabetes. I was diagnosed with it a few years ago. It is treated similiar to diabetes. Good news though! If this is the case you DON'T have diabetes. This is a big warning sign for you though. Atkins will help you tremendously. Since doing atkins I have been able to stop taking the metformin and I control it through diet and exercise! EXERCISE is KEY to dealing with insulin resistance. TRUST me I tried controlling it without and life is so much better now that I've included the exercise. What is happening with insulin resistance,, it's like the insulin is just banging on the door of your cells.. banging.. banging.. banging.. so the insulin increases to bang harder.. keeps banging.. and FINALLY your cells open up.. But then there's so much insulin in your blood your system over reacts to the insulin. The exercise helps tell your cells to open up and accept the insulin before it gets out of hand. This condition really can be controlled with diet and exercise so don't despair. Please ask you doc about metabolic syndrome.. judging from what you said I'd be interested in hearing what your triglycerides are like as well. Hope this helps and if you have questions I'd be glad to help if I can.
