  • Messed up how long will it take to get my body back on track

I had some cookies last night, how long will it take to get my body back on track..I may have to go to owl 20 carbs aren't cutting it anymore with me..I see some posts about when you want to snack, snack on hard boiled eggs or cheese but those will still put you over on your carb levels for the day..When they say have 6 smaller meals a day, do you take your three meals a day and just have like your eggs for breakfast then a while later the bacon...Just need some ideas...I haven't weighed myself yet to see the damage from the cheating..I had done so well 17 days cheat free and then my friend gave me some homemade cookies for my husband, and I put some in the microwave warmed them up and ate them...And I know the reason I did it, I felt deprived not having any desert, I use to live on deserts...Need some input from people that have failed and got back where they should be...I eat between 1,200 and 1,500 calories a day so I am not starving..Any advice.. :no

My suggestion would be that you post your typical day's menu in the Review Menu forum and let us comment on how to make your meals more filling for you.

I had gotten to the point of cutting out all snacks and I wind up with about 15-17 carbs a day. Recently, due to some new meds I'm taking, I'm keep feeling like I'm hungry, so instead, I drink water and do something else. Since you are "mourning" the loss of your desserts, think about whether you are really hungry or whether it is just a habit. Habits can be replaced with new behaviors ... it might take some practice, but you don't want to get into the place of eating sugar ... sooner or later, you'll get knocked out of ketosis and will have to work your way back.

I noticed in reading your history of posts that you discuss desserts and sweets a number of times. How about cutting out all sweet flavors for just two weeks to break the cycle? Rewarding a sweet craving with any sweet taste including Splenda, doesn't change any behaviors. Let's work at getting rid of the cravings instead of thinking of a substitute dessert.

And you aren't alone. Many of us have had to face the same problem!

When you are alone in your head, you are in a bad neighborhood.

When they say have six smaller meals i take it that they mean spread out what you eat in the day and eat six times not 3 main meals and 3 snacks i take that it means 6mini main meals a day. Hope thats not tooooo confusing.
I think it takes 48 hours to get into ketosis if you go back to induction mode 20 carbs or below. The reason we say snack on eggsis because they have a 0.6 g carbs in them not high carb.
Use fitday to keep track of your intake plus your ratio 65%fat/35%protein/5%carbs.
For breakfast i have maybe 2 eggs and tuna, mid morning( i rarely eat cause i dont feel hungrey) ill have an egg with decaf coffee, lunch chicken with salad, mid afternoon egg and chicken, dinner maybe lamb with salad.
I take small amounts though cause i dont need much to get full or rather satisfied.

        Hope this helps

I really appreciate all your input

I think Irish Irish hit my problem right on the head with her response...I quit smoking about a week before I started Atkins..So I think I replace cigarettes with sweets and the pleasure I associate with them..I do have several posts about diet jello and looking for deserts that I can have on induction...I will take Irish Irish's advice and for two weeks not have any sweets in my diet, including diet jello..Tomorrow I will post my menus and get help in the areas I am lacking...I started out losing 8lbs in 16 days, screwed up yesteday and ended up putting 2 lbs on but I have also been having mock danish daily as part of my carb allowances using 3 servings of my cheese for it..I thought I was doing well until I brought those homemade cookies into the house..It seems in my case when I brag about how good I am doing, it is time that I need to be humbled..And I was...thanks again for all your help guys..Back to the eggs for snacks, I used them a lot the first week for snacks when I was hungary..

also the bad thing about quitting smoking is your metabolism slows down so you need to rev up your exercise to get it moving again too.

You got that hand to mouth thing going on. you could sub a veggie for that sweet or a sour pickle as they will trick your tastebud signals receptors and you will no longer be looking for a sweet.

I was going to ask you how an egg could put you over the carb limit but seeing your reply about the sweets answers that. Dr Atkins has a great line in his old books about sweets and desserts should be occasional treats not everyday events on his plan. that is one of the hardest changes for new to Atkins folks to make.

            Happy low carbing.

Re: Messed up how long will it take to get my body back on track

I was bad today also, my sisters birthday... I had a piece of cake.... but I started crying because I was tired of my stomach aches and not being able to hardly eat that I grabbed that piece and ate it. shame on me. Now it will take a couple days to get back on track won't it.

This thread is from 4 years ago! Geesh. I was just about to post a response to the original poster... Might I gently suggest that we not resurrect old threads so that careless readers (like me) don't put thought into answering a question that was asked an Olympics ago?

                  I agree, slapshot.

We are actively working in the background to close lots of old threads, but it takes time.

                  Please bear with us.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

No problem - I don't think this is a board/admin issue but thanks for your behind the scenes work. I've almost done this myself, so for new folks, I can see how it can happen, especially if they reply to a thread that they searched for.

Yes - it is easily done if you don't immediately realise the thread is an old one.

Sometimes it isn't a problem as old info is often still relevant today to current visitors/members, but it is annoying if you have spent effort and time working out a response, maybe looking up references to direct people towards, only to realise that the original poster hasn't been around for years.
