Re: Men may want to avoid, I need female advice about Atkins and womanly issues
Take a deep breath. You're fine! Trust me
Water retention is temporary as long as you're doing what you're supposed to be doing. We've just had this great discussion on water retention during TOM (time of the month) you might find interesting on another part of the forum
.
It's normal for women to gain water weight. Atkins is a natural "diuretic" as long as you are drinking your water, eating you veggies, and exercising. All those things together help flush the body of toxins.
For us women, we have to try a little extra harder to make sure we're drinking our water, exericising, and staying away from the extra salt---that's the culprit in my life
. You might find that as you move through the Atkins plan you might not even gain that much water weight each month.
Stay true to you and the plan. Focus on your over all goals and you plan to make sure you're going to get through it. You'll do great!~Lisa~

And, then again, maybe you might continue to have big jumps in weight during that TOM. I usually gain 4-6 lbs of water during that time and it goes away right after.
Do I dare mention that once you get into maintenance, you'll notice fluctuations (water retention/weight gain) during menses AND ovulation.....~Joy

Thanks goodness. I'm still new to this-beginning my fourth week on Atkins. Your advice has made me feel much better. I suppose I should only worry if the 10 lbs are still there in a week. ha! I will look for the discussion posts. Thanks again and have a great night!

i retained water for the first 2 whole weeks.. my left ankle seems to take the water more than the right so i spent almost 10 days with swollen left ankle just about the time i thought " this isnt right.. i need to make a dr. appt" it was gone - for the record i have very boney hands/ feet/ ankles you can always see the bones in my ankles... those first 10 days i was super puffy, but it did go away

Re: Men may want to avoid, I need female advice about Atkins and womanly issues
totally normal for the water retention during TOM. i know in my own experience that when it's getting close to avoid my weekly weigh in and then try to stay off the scale until two or three days afterward too. nothing to worry about though.
