  • What am I doing wrong?

Ok I Started the induction phase 3 weeks ago. The 1st two weeks I lost 14 lbs. During this third week of induction I have gain 6 lbs. What am I doing wrong?

I think i'm either having TOO much crystal Light or not enough veggies. or is it I'm doing 20 carbs instead of the 12-15 carbs. I exercise 5 days a week (racketball)

The 6 lb gain has really upset me, now the OATMEAL PIES and all the other sweet things have been CALLING!!!!!!

MALE- 6 ft tall 289 lbs my goal is 200 lbs

    I REALLY NEED HELP.

Can you post a daily menu? It will make it easier to figure out if anything is wrong.

Same Breakfast: 4 scrambled eggs and 3 sausage patties with (CYSTAL LIGHT)

      Different Lunches:
Basically Tuna salad or Chicken salad -the mayo used is only 2 TBSP with (CRYSTAL LIGHT)

Different Dinners: Baked Chicken or Salmon, or Something to that degree and very little Veggies. and of course (CRYSTAL LIGHT)

Snacks varies: Beef Jerky or 1 no sugar pudding cup per day or CRYSTAL LIGHT or String Cheese or pork skins.

What's in those sausage patties? I read that sausage may carry hidden carbs.

Well the only major issue I can see it the Crystal Light. I think that may confirm your suspicions. Plain water is magic. Try it.

Also you should try to work in a few more veggies. You should probably eat about 12-14 carbs worth of veggies on induction. It will keep you regular and healthy.

Are you familiar with fitday? It is a great place to try to keep track of what you are eating. One thing to watch when you use fitday is that you are getting enough fat. I don't know what you cook you stuff in. But your fat percentage may be a little low and your protein a bit high (depending on how big your portions are for supper)

Looks like a bit of adjusting is needed.
And don't forget to drink water.

Re: What am I doing wrong?

And why "very little veggies"? over half of our daily carbs during induction are to be from vegetables. This means 11 of the 20 net should be from veggies. 3 cups of vegetables per day are a mandatory part of the program. Our bodies NEED the vegetables for the nutrients and fiber they provide.

We are only allowed 3 servings of sweetners a day. Depending on how MUCH of that crystal light you are drinking, you are at least 1 serving over by having it 4 times a day. What about regular water? Are you consuming the crystal light IN ADDITION to the required 8-8oz glasses of plain water we are supposed to be drinking daily? If not, you need to trade some of that crystal light in for plain old water. Our bodies NEED water.

If you don't have enough water and vegetables, your body will not be eliminating waste on a regular basis. This could account for some of the weight gain. As soon as you eliminate, you will probably see a loss on the scale. If you eat high fiber vegetables (as you should be) and drink lots of water (as you should be) then this shouldn't be a consistent problem.

Also check that "no sugar pudding". Most puddings are made with ingredients that aren't allowed during induction even if they don't add sugar. In fact, there hasn't been a "pudding" that I've found that IS induction legal. And, that makes a 5th serving of sweetner.

One other phenomenon that happens is that during weeks 3-6 many low carbers find themselves in a 'pause' for weight loss. This is your body's defense mechanism. It may be hoarding water as place holders for the fat you've lost. Waiting you out so to speak until you give it carbs/fat to store again. Once it realizes that you are consistent (meaning you don't give in to those oat pies that are calling you) it will release that water and you'll get a loss on the scale (we call them a whooshie).

Be patient, follow the plan, and you'll get the results. If you give in and let your inner child dictate that you *need* oat pies or other crap, you'll end up without the results and only a fleeting moment of the taste of the crap foods.

Ditto what Liv and Joy said.
Would like to add, Watch the Frankenfoods as in SF pudding cups. Also, does the jerky and sausage have any form of sugar in it?
Fresh is best! Processed food is still processed food. Those artificial sweetners are so unhealthy. Chrystal light is made with Aspartame and is a no-no on Atkins.
I totally agree that you must eat your mandatory 3 cups of veggies a day. Fiber, Fiber, Fiber!
Nothing replaces water, Drink lots and lots of water!
There may be hidden sugars somewhere that are causing the sugar cravings. Buy yourself some L-Glutamine to help with the sugar cravings. It totally works. Begin with a 200 mg capsule or tablet three times a day for a week. Then increase the dose to two capsules or tablets three times a week. When you feel more energetic and have lost the cravings for sweets, you can adjust the dose of L-Glutamin you take until you find the best level for you.
Read food lables carefully. Look for all forms of sugars, MSG, and HFCS (high fructose corn syrup), a bady!
How much pork skins do you eat? Watch your portion sizes with those. They have a tendancy to make us retain water. Another reason to drink your water to flush your system.
Looks as though you just need to make some minor adjustments.
Great job on your 14 pounds. Those 6 pounds will soon fall off. Work the plan 100% and you'll get 100% results.
Fantastic on the exercise! Keep up the great work!
              Sincerely, Sherri

                .

And please note that "sugar" can also be the starch in your pudding ----the thickener---and not necessarily straight sugar. Your body, however, treats it just like sugar.....

Re: What am I doing wrong?

Hello Shaze, When I first started Atkins I loved crystal light but i found out that in the DANDR book Dr. Atkins says, No drinks containing Aspartame as an ingrediant. I looked in the back of crystal light and the ingrediant does have Aspartame. Try to stay away from crystal light. Once I got away from Crystal light pound started dropping fast
