  • I GAINED a pound, what the heck?

My first week of induction was great-- I dropped 6 lbs. right away and was rediculously happy about it. I realize that sometimes I'll lose faster, other times I'll slow down, and sometimes even hit a stopping point, but I didn't expect to GAIN weight! This morning marked my last day of Induction and I've gained one pound. I've not been eating any differently than I did the first week. Also, my first week I didn't exercise at all, last week I went to the gym 4 times.

Seeing a gain on the scale is really discouraging. Have any of you experienced temporary gains, even when you think you're doing all the right stuff? I need some words of encouragement.

"I get knocked down, but I get up again, you're never gonna keep me down!" :)

Repeat after me... If I am in ketosis, I will lose weight.

Sing it if you must, a chorus of 'my pee has ketones, yay me!'

It can't NOT happen, if you are in lipolysis.

Salt can make you retain water. Even exercise can do this temporarily, ever go for a good walk and have fat fingers for half the day? It will come back off! never fear!

I'm glad you posted this today... I had the exact same thing happen to me this morning. While I knew it could happen and why, it's still disheartening to see those numbers go UP. Esp since I've been busting my butt exercising.

Thanks Momtomany and Misshunter for the words of encouragement... I feel better and hope you do too, Danielle!

You can do it Danielle! I struggle very much too with stagnant weight. Oh why why why doesn't it come off like it came on? But I finally had good news today and I know this is a temporary setback for you--but most likely you will drop this pound and another this week!

Also, as a side note us girls have hormones that make us retain water at certain times. Always a bummer.....
But hang in there you should see a loss soon.

Re: I GAINED a pound, what the heck?

This thread reminds me of the reason I feel it is NOT a good thing to weigh every day!!

Look at the total amount you have lost in your first 14 days and check with the chart in DANDR as to what sort of metabolic resistance this indicates rather than being disheartened at a daily fluctuation which is completely NORMAL!!!

Once you know your resistance to weightloss then you can plan your campaign of weightloss better. If anything better than 'high' - in that you have lost 'some' weight - then there is NO POINT in staying at the low carb level of induction.

Another suggestion I would like to make is this . . .
If seeing a jump in the scales number spoils your day DO NOT get on that metal monster every day!! Pick one day in the week and weigh only then.

We will not lose weight in a steady downward slope for many reasons as well as for no reason at all, so dont set yourself up for failure by depending on those pesky scales!!

Measure yourself, think of how you feel - more energy, less pimples, softer skin, brighter eyes or better mood - and count those on the scale of success in addition to any drop in pounds!!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
