My strategy would be to read the manual (DANDR 2002) and follow the rules

Failing to plan is planning to fail
So make sure you decide in advance what you are going to eat during the day and get it all ready so you don't have to make a snap decision!

If you know you are going to be away from home do take some induction-legal snacks with you as well as some water so you are not 'forced' to eat offplan.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Mine would be.. don't over obsess about losing weight in a certain amount of time and variety, variety, variety in your meals. Both of which flair their ugly heads for me on occasion. Also, don't think of the things you are giving up as much as you think of what this WOL can give back to you, i.e. better health, more energy, maybe better self esteem etc..
OH! And don't obsess over the scale. Use the tape measure as well. I personally do better when I weigh every day. But I must say I do not obsess over the results. I use it as a guide. That doesn't work for all people but it does for me.

Im definately going to go by this rule when I return to my nursing placements in September. Firstly im not that keen on the staff canten foods and secondly, Im going to have to be strong when the ward staff try to pass around the usual chocolate biscuits and sweets!

For me, personaly, there are some other lessons that I've learn during this WOL.
          1. Eating x amount of food in the evening makes me stall. Eating THE SAME amount of food (even more) but at noon instead of evening, makes me lose fast. We are talking, of course, of the same quality of food too.

          2. Cheese and mushrooms make me stall. Might be related to yeast, but the fact i that next day I feel bloated.

          3. I used to put cream in my coffee without measuring it. One day I measure it and realised I was around 15-18 carbs only from the cream!

I'll add others as I remember them.

I did the same thing with the cream ... So now i just dont drink coffee, cause i only like it if its really creamy.. mmm

For me i have found that i used to push the envelope and all i did was push myself right out of ketosis... These are some of the things i used to eat thinking they were 'basicly ok'

              Iced breve latte's from starbucks
              "no carb" rockstars
              sugar free jello
              crystal light
              low carb beer
              nuts (during induction)
low carb ice cream (during induction)
              russle stoffers carb smart candy

you get the idea.... Iv learned for me personally, just stick to the book!!!

Re: Things you've discovered which helped you lose Fat faster!

For me the trick is to eat smaller meals often... because I am not hungry I forget to eat.. I know I am not alone. SO I now set the alarm on my cell phone to tell me to eat! sounds corny I know. I also eat almost immediatly when I wake up after drinking a full glass of water and I stop eating 4 hours before bed... I actually try to consume all my carbs before 3pm too. Its so difficult but it is slowly becoming a habit and I know when I fail to do these things I stall.
Nice thread topic... I hope it helps others!

Re: Things you've discovered which helped you lose Fat faster!

I managed to find a few tips on the net - might be useful for some on here too

                  Atkins Diet Tip #1

Take a "before" picture. I had my wife take my picture before I started the diet, and it was a real eye-opener. I didn’t look good. After two weeks on the Atkins plan, I had her take my photo again. What an inspiration! The clothes were already fitting looser and I could see that even my face was slimming down. I began taking the pictures about every three to four weeks after that, and let me tell you, they are inspirational. Any time I get frustrated or reach a plateau with my weight loss, I just get out those pictures and remind myself of how far I’ve come.

                  Atkins Diet Tip #2

Stock your refrigerator before you start. I tried starting the Atkins diet without going to the store at first. This was a mistake because a lot of the foods I had weren’t part of the program, and a lot of the ones that I was supposed to eat weren’t anywhere in my house. The next week my wife and I took the acceptable foods list with us to the market and stocked up on everything I liked. Then I had no excuses and my wife discovered that she could prepare tons of meals that were delicious and creative because she had everything on hand.

I also got rid of all the junk foods and empty calories in my house so that I wouldn’t be tempted. It’s a lot easier to pass up a plate of spaghetti if you don’t have any in the house!

                  Atkins Diet Tip #3

Make sure you take your vitamins. This sounds so simple, but it’s one thing a lot of people forget. If you don’t get the proper nutrients, you could begin feeling tired and blame it on the diet. If you take a good multi-vitamin and mineral supplement, you will protect yourself against disease, illness and the possibility of feeling "drained."

                  Atkins Diet Tip #4

Find a friend to do the Atkins Diet with. Before I started Atkins, I had discussed it with a friend who decided to try it as well. During the Induction Phase he called me one night to talk because, he confessed, he was ready to give in to temptation – his son’s birthday cake. I suggested a snack alternative, and he ate it while we chatted. By the time we hung up, he felt great and the craving for the cake was gone.

It worked great to have an Atkins buddy – we even ate lunch out once a week to treat ourselves! We learned together how to read menus to find the best choices, how to ask for substitutions and always had fun while we were treating ourselves. We kept each other on track and cheered each other on.

                  Atkins Diet Tip #5

Keep quick and easy snacks ready. My wife always made sure I had crispy veggies like celery and cucumbers sliced and chilled in ice water for quick pick-me-ups. If they are already prepared, I’m more likely to reach for them. I also keep several varieties of cheese on hand and some hard-boiled eggs ready all the time. Both of these are great for a mid-afternoon or evening snack. You can also get a few of the Atkins snack bars for those times when you want a snack and you’re away from home.

Keeping these five Atkins diet tips in mind worked so well for me that they are now a part of my life. I always have something good to eat on hand, and my buddy and I are now in the Maintenance Phase of the Atkins diet, looking good and feeling great!

I chose foods lowest on the GI (Glycemic Index) in each rung. You can read about the GI on page 78-84,92 DANDR or you can go to www.glycemiindex.com to learn more.

I second the question about cream because I haven't been counting cream as carbs. I do try to watch the amount since we're not supposed to have over the set amount, but I don't actually measure...and I should. HOWEVER, my cream states ZERO carbs and has no sugars in the nutritional labeling or in the ingredients. Now I know that some do but not the heavy whipping cream kind that I buy. So I'm a bit confused.

Ok the deal about cream... as long as each serving size of cream is 0.9 carbs or less the manufacture can say that it has 0 carbs. Its tricky and unfortunate because every heavy cream has carbs just like all dairy. I would personally count it as 1 carb per tbsp from now on... I would also measure it with a measuring spoon because its easy to get way too much and for me, too much cream makes me gain weight! Hope that helps

No, half and half has milk in it... we are talking about heavy whipping cream which is a better choice for Atkins

cream in coffee should be full fat regular cream. In America it's called whipping cream (in a carton) not 1/2 and 1/2 because that has milk in it.
