  • Are Nuts like super dooper bad?

Now, before someone asks.. I DID read the book!!!!!! Which yall would be very proud, because I hate to read :nono .. But my memory just sucks... How bad are nuts, like Im past the 14 days..

Most know I fell off the wagon, got back on, fell back off ( you get the idea).

Just wondering, I mean Im not completely ready to go onto OWL, because I have alot of weight to lose still, but I just need something to snack on once n awhile.

The carb count is extremely low in them, I know they arent allowed on induction, but I guess im wondering, why exactly are they bad? :confused

    actually they are not evil

And as you read in your Atkins they are the first food Dr Atkins tells folk doing a long induction like those in this forum to do after there 14 days are up.

It was a portion control issue. Most folk doing atkins have become fat becasue they had portion control issues. Nuts are a very hard food for folk to realize need portion control cause those itty bitty nuts can't possibly have enough energy or carbsa in them to effect me and soon that can you were just going to have an ounce of is empty.

So you can add some nuts to your extended induction id you want to or you can stick with the induction only foods and wait for OWL to add them back. If you have trouble with them drop them and wait.

    Happy low carbing to you.

I keep Fischer Dry Roasted Peanuts as their carb content is lower, I am sure it is less than 5 per 1/4 cup, but it may be as low as 3 total net carbs.

Can't remember the actual carb count, but it is in that range.

I love nuts.......and I find 1/4 cup does me just fine.

So how much is a serving and what are the best nuts to eat?

according to Dr Atkins words in DANDR 1 ounce of nuts has 5 carbs and that is his serving size no matter what our carb counters say 1 ounce was what he was talking about. look in chapter 8 page 86 and 87 oif your DANDR about nuts.

I didn't have nuts on the 14 day induction, only after I passed through the 2 weeks did I even contemplate peanuts. And it wasn't 2 weeks later, it was definitely 4 - 6 weeks.

2big, I wonder if 1 oz. is 1/4 cup? Weight sizes really do me in, as I have no concept of what is 1 oz.

                  I think 2 oz. equals 1/4 cup.

Also, as far as I know, nuts aren't allowed in any stage of Induction. If you are eating nuts, you are doing OWL.

I think the advice given was for those doing a "modified induction".. Which is what I did for about 6 months. I ate from the rungs but still kept my carb count around 20 a day. Just wanted to clarify...

As far as I have understood is that Atkins does not have a "modified induction" as part of its program. If you are modifying induction by adding non-Induction-friendly foods, then you are doing OWL, even if your carbs remain around 20 per day.

Induction is not just about carb limits, otherwise it would be just dandy to eat 20 carbs worth of whole grain cereal (part of the OWL ladder) everyday with carb-free meat. That is not doing Atkins.

This is my understanding, I apologize if I seem snotty. I just get upset when people come in and "modify" the Atkins program to their liking. It upset me when the Atkins company did it, after Dr. A's death, and it upsets me when other ppl do it too.

Some people are doing their own version of Atkins and calling it an Extended Induction. Call it whatever you want, but if you're eating foods not listed in Chapter 11, then you're not doing "Atkin's" Induction. But... if it's working for you, cool.

I've been doing what I call a "modified OWL". At my point in the game my weight loss has slowed down and I'm constantly having to tweak things to keep moving in the right direction.

I stick mostly to Induction friendly foods, but almost always eat more veggies. I've chosen the foods from the different rungs that I enjoy most and try to limit them to a few times a week. My choices have been Berrries and cantaloupe, Alcohol (Rum and Wine), soft cheeses and Nuts.

Portion and calorie control is what I have to watch closely. From years and years of yo yo dieting I've really compromised my metabolism, and I'm also hypothyroid, 52 and only 5' tall. I also work out 7 days a week.

I know I'm going way off topic here, but success in this program requires constant vigilance. When you start doing your program instead of "Atkins" you may not get the results you want.

Actually Dr Atkins created it himself in his 1992 and 1999 edition of the 92 books with rule 5 saying you could use a carbcounter to pick your own 20 carbs a day if you wanted. the 2002 DANDR changed the rule to eat nothing, but then Dr Atkins says the first thing he tells folks to add back is nuts when they finish their 14 days so we have one of those paradoxes that DANDR 2002 if famous for.

On ADBB modified indution is called modifed OWL or OWL/DUCTION and folk doing it need to be posting about it in the OWL board
