  • Not Working! Maybe I should do Low Fat?

    hi guys. i am very disappointed in atkins so far. or how i am doing with it. i started induction and didn't buy the book so i was doing it all wrong for 1week. i ate nuts and too many carbs. so then i bought the book and last week i did everything right. i even worked out everyday! strength training and cardio.

    so why am i not losing weight? i had lost 4lbs by weds. but then gained a couple ounces the last two days in a row! wtf?! i know it is slow and steady wins the race but when you dramatically change what you are eating and start working out shouldn't you lose alot in the beginning, like biggest loser?

    also, my stomach has been upset. i feel bloated and gasy all the time. i'm thinking maybe the fat isn't doing the right thing with me. maybe i can do no carbs and low fat?

    Do me a favor ... stick with it a little longer ... stay on induction.
    Please start a blog ... and every day blog what you are eating ... and the exercise you are doing.

    Sometimes the scale lies ... especially when you are doing exercise. You need to stick with it for at least a full month to fully see the effects.

    Now ... you say you havent lost weight ... have you noticed any positive side effects? Do you feel healthier and more energetic?

      thanks for responding tom. yes i have noticed that i have MUCH more energy when i am working out. i was very happy about that. i think my clothes are fitting better but not positive. also i took my measurements yesterday to start keeping track of those...

      i must admit that i really want to drop inches and weight FAST. i know this is not a quick fix and i am committed to long term, but i have a wedding on 10/11 and i want to look GOOD. i thought about alot of diets before i decided on this one and it was because i thought i would get a good jump off in weight loss...

      i will start the blog today...

        please ... stick with it ... be strict with the induction and if you can post what you are eating + your exercise to the blog here ...

        you need to wait a month ... if you are feeling better focus on that ... not on the scale.
        The scale will move ... this diet has worked for 99% of the people. Just need to be strict and patient.

          I completely agree with Tom. I did not lose ANY weight one week but then I measured and I had lost 6.5 inches total!! Do not let the scale rule your life. Give this an honest chance and I guarantee you will look back on this post and laugh.

            I agree with everyone else. Please stick to it. I can already see how it may appear that it is "not working". The first thing is to eliminate daily weigh-ins. I would go 2 weeks on a completely honest and clean induction and then weigh yourself. Also good for you for starting to take measurements, I see so many people on this board who have not lost any more than 5 pounds but have gone down so many dress sizes and have lost so many inches. This especially applies when you are working out (which is another way to go moment from me to you ) It is too soon for you to think it is not working. I've been doing this straight for 2 months now. During the first week of induction I dropped about 6 pounds, then barely anything the next week....and then I started thinking it wasn't working. I stopped weighing myself so that I wouldn't get discouraged, but the whole time I was thinking I wasn't losing anything. Well it's my 2 month anniversary today actually and somewhere along the lines I lost an additional 12 pounds, down 2 dress sizes.
            I can't promise you that you will look exactly the way you are hoping to look by 10/11. But I can promise you that you will feel so much better, gain confidence and look amazing enough to hold your head up high, and you will look how you want to look, if not better, in due time!
            Stick to it, keep going strong, you're doing great and stay with us to keep us posted!

              Charmed, you lost 4 pounds in a week -- that's NOT "not working"! The couple ounce gain is nothing to worry about -- the scale fluctuates a lot day to day on Atkins, which is why you should you really try not to weigh everyday.

              I agree with everyone else. Just stick with it and follow by the book -- I'm pretty sure you'll be happy with the results. Good luck!

                thank you all for the concern. i just felt like it wasn't working because in the past when i did low fat stuff i lost alot more in the beginning...maybe i am getting old also...

                so i will trust you guys and pray for the best!

                  4 lbs is pretty good! I've done Weight Watchers where 2 lbs was considered good. Just hang in there! You've still got a while before 10/11...just set realistic goals. Best of luck!

                    It really does work and 4lbs is good!! Have you taken measurements? That is where you will see changes, even if the scale isn't showing a change. Definitely stick with it!

                      I am a bit interested in what Tom said about the exercise. I have been stuck at 11 pounds for a while and have not deviated one bit from the plan except this weekend, we were out of town and I drank a lot of Diet Pepsi. HOwever, we walked at least 5-12 miles per day the past three days. I was all set to hop on the scale this morning and see a nice drop in weight and instead I was HORRIFIED to see that I gained 2 pounds! What is going on? Is this the Diet Pepsi or is it the extra exercise? Today I have been drinking water like it was going out of style--I am praying those 2 pounds come back off!

                        ok i was going over my food and i think i messed up big time...i have been craving sweets so i whip up cream and add splenda and vanilla for flavor. so it is like icecream. i've been doing this for the last 3-4 days and having alot. then i just read we are only suppossed to have 1tbs of cream a day! is that what is causing my slow progress??

                          You are allowed 3 oz of cream, but that is not a great deal. It is more than 1 TBSP though! You are probably going over your 3 servings of Splenda too....I would try cutting down on that. According to page 129, these foods slow loss in some persons.

                          It is 1 oz of sour cream, or 3 oz heavy cream under the special category foods.

                            Two by the ways.. one, you and I are neck and neck weight wise, I am at 229. Two, your bloating and gassiness makes me wonder if you need to investigate the chapters on Candida. I fought yeast overgrowth years ago, it is a pain, but it can be mastered.. IF that is your problem.

                              i really hope you will stick with it a little longer. like you said in your original post the first week was really not a clean week of induction. so the next week was a little better sounds like. glad to see you bought the book. i would try for atleast one more week of clean induction. keep up with the exercise. you will be amazed at how your body will start to change with the exercise and diet combined. even if the scales not moving, you WILL start to notice a change. (IE: clothes start to feel looser, you'll have more energy, your appetite will decrease) all wonderful affects of this plan. it's hard to predict whether or not you will make your goal by your specified date, but guaranteed you will feel better and look better on your special day. not to mention the pride you will feel for sticking with it and becoming a healthier person.
