  • Help!

    My best friends 30th B-day surprise party is tonight. My friends are all big eaters and they love to celebrate by drinking alot. They all disapprove of me doing Atkins, and always try to get me to eat "just a little of this." I'm not too worried about that, but I know they will push the alcohol on me. I haven't had any in so long, and I hope I can stay away. Any advice from anyone else tempted like this?

    You may not like to hear this but I am quite a hard-nosed person. If my friends "disapporoved" of something I was doing I would listen to them and then tell them it's my life.

    If they continued I would be more firm and tell them again that I'm doing it for me not them and I don't like hearing them go on and on and on about it.

    If a friend still persisted and tried to get me to eat things I didn't want to, I would tell him/her that I'm not prepared to see them anymore until they accept how I eat and accept that it's my body.

    Like I said I'm hard-nosed and you probably wouldn't want to do that.

      well you could offer to be the DD and then you can't drinkeven one drop

      or you can call afew of those friends and explain that you are working very hard on improving your health with your new way of eating and at theis time you can't have any alcohol and you need them to help you stay clean when others are tempting you at the party. Then they have to not tempt you and they should be willing to tell the others to knock it off.

      Are you sure those folk are your friends? I can't imagine a frined trying to bully nor temp me like that. We just don't do stuff like that to folk we love and care about. :no

        Yeah, I will be the DD. And they are real friends, they are just the type who likes to give me a hard time. That, and they have only seen me eating this way for a month or so, so most of them are like what? Before, I was the carb-queen and was always baking treats for them and so on. I haven't seen them in awhile so I will see how it goes tonight.

              Just got back from the party. Everything went fine and I drank water all night. They had a deli tray, so I ate ham, turkey, cheese and salad. Everyone was asking me if I was still not eating carbs. I said I would not be eating many carbs for the rest of my life. I had many of my buds interested when I explained the Atkins Nutritional Approach, they all understand alot better now. Thankss all for the advice and support.

                Good job on staying true! Isn't funny when we imagine it will be so much worse than what it might be? Or that our resistance is just that much stronger than we give ourselves credit for being? Way to go!

                          I'm really pleased for you. You're friends turned out to react better than I think you thought. Or at least how I thought they'd react. Good for you. You've now paved the way for easier gatherings
