I'm still in the 1st induction phase (just stared my 2nd week today actually), but I'm thinking ahead of what I'm going to do and have a few questions. As of today, I have 96 lbs to lose to get at my goal weight of 155. I would like to do extended induction for a bit longer if it will help me lose more weight quickly, but wonder if there is a consensus on when someone should move to OWL and start the rungs? Do you do that when you're down to 30 lbs left to lose? More? Less? I know if I get bored with the food, it may be wise for me to move to OWL, but for now I'm satisfied with the foods in induction and don't see a problem doing this for a bit longer. Any thoughts on what the "right" weight is to move on to OWL?

Re: How long to stay in extended induction?
i have been in induction since june 15... i have read that you need to move up the rungs as you get closer to goal so that you can see how many carbs your body can handle and what foods you may need to stay away from.... i plan on being extended untill about 30 lbs to goal

Re: How long to stay in extended induction?
Same here, I am moving up once I am at the half way mark which is 30 pounds. If there is boredom, it is best to move up since you will still lose on the rungs.

Re: How long to stay in extended induction?
If you want to really benefit from the OWL scientific experiment, testing various foods and discovering your CCLL you need to allow yourself plenty of time while you have lots of weight to lose.
Say you are losing a couple of pounds a week and decide to try out several new foods on each OWL rung then you will need to allow a few weeks on each rung, meaning it might take you a few months to climb up the carbohydrate ladder.
Dr Atkins expected us to have completed OWL and be ready for the third phase of Atkins when we still have 5-10 pounds to lose.
It will be much easier to recognise if adding 5 net carbs of the OWL foods has affected your losses if you still have a fair number of pounds to go, as most of us slow down once we get close to our goal weights.Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Re: How long to stay in extended induction?
I dont know about everyone else, but I amgoing to stay on induction until I am practically at my goal weight. I restarted with my hubby and we just past the 30 day mark. So far on a good morning I am down almost 14 pounds. *toots own horn*
I am afraid if I add more carbs in that it will lead to cheating. I have restarted a few times and I just dont want to get into all that again. I am happy- and my energy level is through the roof 5 out 7 days. Before I was lucky if I had one day of energy. Add I have a baby that is up teething all night, I think im doing okay. Hang in there, and just follow your gut feeling. Only you can determine what is best I think. Goodluck!

Re: How long to stay in extended induction?
Hi, I'm working on my 6th week in induction. So far, so good. I believe in DANDR, Atkins indicates that you can stay on induction as long as needed. This is true especially if you have alot of weight to lose. But, it also depends on if your weightloss continues. Some folks have experienced a slow down in weightloss the longer that they stayed on induction and then, found that when they started moving up the rungs, their weightloss resumed.
I plan to stay on extended induction until my weightloss slows. Then, I will know that I need to move up the rungs.
I hope this helps.
