  • My poison...

I've had a hard time with one rule in particular with induction - no alcohol. It's not that I drink it constantly or anything but I love to have a glass of something in the evening or with dinner. It's a hard habit to break! I know it's likely the reason the scale bounces around so much. On days I don't slip and let myself have a drink, the scale goes down. But if I do, the next day the scale is usually always back up. UGH.

    Re: My poison...

The thing that made me decide not to indulge till I was closer to my goal weight was that the body will use alcohol as a preferred fuel and might store any other stuff like the fat/protein/carbs you are eating as fat!!

Maybe you need to move into OWL now so alcohol becomes a 'legal' menu item

In fact, looking at your stats I can't see any reason for you to stay on an extended induction now anyway.

If you want to climb the carb ladder to discover your CCLL and see if you have any trigger foods before you are at premaintenance phase (which Dr Atkins told us to move to when we have 5-10 pounds left to lose) you don't have an awful lot of time.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

I can only say that I can relate.

We know that we should give it up for at least the induction phase. But, it's hard to do.

Not much of an answer, but there it is!

I have exactly the same problem. I even switched from red wine to a bacadi and coke at night, but it just makes me stall. I dont put on weight, i just dont loose anymore. Its my evening way to relax after a stressful day. If anyone finds a drink that does not put weight loss on hold, please post!!

Oh man can I relate. I used to love a rum & coke in the evenings, then switched to diet coke, but after being diagnosed with diabetes I gave up alcohol altogether. I haven't had a drink in 2 years, but there are days I really miss it.

I don't think you will find any alcoholic drinks that don't do this, as it is the alcohol in them that puts weightloss on hold

I think my post yesterday really helped. I think I just needed to 'come clean' about my struggle. It really helped me stay focused last night and not bother indulging in a drink with or after dinner. I think journaling (or posting in this case) the things you are having a tough time with can help your mind work through it. Anyway, I feel great this morning about and it am hoping to continue this way!

Oh - and yes, I have decided to go ahead and move forward to OWL. I think it is an important step and thanks for the 'two cents'!

That was hard for me too .. im used to having a glass of wine after work or a beer with friends on the weekends .. but it always made me stall .. Or i would get a little tipsy and eat something bad that night or the next morning to cure my hangover ..

Now i just dont drink at all ... It kinda stinks on the weekends when we get together with friends, but i guess there will be plenty of time for that when im skinny right

My favorite drink was a Tom Collins. Im not a big drinker but I love the taste of one.

Later down the road you may be able to add in a low carb beer.....

These days I splurge now and then -on sugarfree koolaid. lol

                              Re: My poison...

I can totally commiserate. I have no problem walking away from sweets, and illegal savories I can ignore if I have something legal to eat, but al-kee-hol?... man! That's the only deprivation that's making me twitch at night.

I used to love to sip some apricot brandy before bed, but recently learned it was very bad for my teeth. If you think the alcohol kills the germs in your mouth thus cancelling out the detrimental effects of the sugars, well let me just tell you from personal experience, you're dead wrong.

These past 3 days have been my heavy TOM days and it's been very hard not to give in to the temptation to buy "just a little bottle of tequila to drink neat". (My TOMs are very difficult due to fibroid tumours.) My solution now is to use prescription Vicodan.

For you maybe my other non-TOM solution would work: Get all your nightly responsibilities taken care of as quickly as possible, then take some OTC sleeping pills and call it a night! You can't cheat if you're asleep and, if you're like me, you'll wake up early bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, step on the scale, and be very glad you didn't give in.

                              Good luck!
