  • Fat Fast Regimen

Does anyone have personal experience with the Fat Fast regimen outlined on page 170 -172 of DANDR 2002? My weight loss has been slightly slower than I would like with increase physical activity. I'm considering tyring the 1,200 calorie modification for a week to see what happens. I believe I may be somewhat metabollically resistent.

No personal experience. But fat fast is not for 'slightly slower' weight loss.

There is a sticky about this.

I loaned out my book, but I think when the Dr. had persons do the FF, that it was just for a few days, not a week. I could be wrong.

5 weeks.. 25 pounds.. I don't think you are a FF candidate in my humble opinion. I think you are doing very well!

Thanks for the fast reply and the support. It's appreciated. I just came across it in the book. In the second thru fourth weeks I experienced a major stall and stayed at 244lbs. After reviewing my FitDay calorie report for week five and six, I realized I was eating approximately 1,200 calories per day with over 75% fat. This is almost the modified Fat Fast as outlined int Dr Atkins book. I am not interested in doing the Fat Fast, but doing a modified version at a 1,200 calorie per day regimen.

I'll stick with the program the way I'm doing it, but I was just curious if anyone else had any experience with this apsect of DANDR

Dude, you're down 25 in little over a month. I would be very proud of that. I started a week or so before you and I still haven’t dropped 25, yet. But it will come. Never heard of the fat fast, but it doesn't sound real healthy. To me. Could you summarize?

From what I've seen on the board, calories do count - somewhat. Logic dictates they would have to. I have been keeping track of calories since I started the Induction. I have a program (called Diet & Exercise, available for PC and PPC) that calculates my current and target/date weight(s), based on my current H/W/Age stats & factoring in my activity level, generally. It gives me my calories per day (CPD) to reach my goal. I use it to calibrate my mini-goals. For example, my next mini-goal is 200 by 11/1, starting last Monday at 220. I enter my workouts, such as they are, and meals (sometimes, I’m not religious about it, because over 2 months or so of Adkins diet science, I have a pretty good idea how I’m fairing most days). I have found that even ignoring the CPD guidelines from the program, normally I’m consuming within my guidelines if my weight loss mini-goals are realistic. Now I am an old guy, so my metabolism is probably slower than yours, so I do need to watch the calories and exercise. But I guess my point is that in the calorie range I need to abide within to achieve my goals, even without the Adkins plan, I am satisfied with that number of CPD – now that I have kicked sugar and all the other Adkins no-nos. And when I go way over my CPD, splurge if you will, I am punished with slower or a stall day

I don’t know if 1,200 is appropriate for you or not. I’m no dietitian or anything, but think you need to consider calories in the overall context of mini-goals and realistic planning. I think your goal of 175 is admirable. I’m hoping for 185, and will be happy to settle in the 185-195 range, depending on holidays, birthdays and special occasion-splurges that I know will continue to happen. Good luck.

I want to do it, i have lost 3 lbs in 2 months. I have been in ketosis every single day from 3 days into it. I stayed in induction for 2 weeks and never lost beyond 3lbs. I have the book and i have read it and re read it but no difference.

Ris, have you posted your menus in the 'Review my Menu' forum in case anyone can spot any possible 'stallers'? Are you on any medication that might be impeding weightloss?

Also how much weight do you hope to lose in total?
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
