I don't believe anyone mentioned staying on it forever, just using the meat and egg fast as a way to jumpstart into ketosis...

If we follow the Atkins plan the way it was written, there is NO need to modify it in any way. You start "modifying" it in the Ongoing Weight Loss phase where you add foods back in and customize your eating plan according to your own bodies tolerance of different foods.

Also, I would like to add that Dr. A came up with the fat fast for those of us who are truly metabolically resistant. This is what one should do, not meat and egg, but ONLY if you can't get into ketosis with induction foods alone.

Re: Helping my induction with a meat/egg fast-finally ketosis!

See, I don't really think a meat and egg fast would "kick start" ketosis. Your bod moves into the lipolysis/ketotic mode only when your glycogen stores have been used up. Dr. A. said that takes 2-3 days on his diet.

Furthermore, during protein digestion/metabolism, part of that protein is converted to glucose. Anything that isn't used immediately for energy will be brought to the liver and converted to glycogen. Once the liver storage space has been filled, that excess will be transported to fat tissue to be stored as body fat.

So to me, a meat and egg fast might back fire because you will be just be giving your bod a continuous supply of glucose, glycogen and fat.

Re: Helping my induction with a meat/egg fast-finally ketosis!

well different things work for different people...I for one can follow atkins induction to the nth and still not get into ketosis in 2-3 days..it can take more like 5-7 or more, I am extremely metabolically resistant, I no longer have my book, (new one in the mail) so I can't remember what the fat fast is, but....I've heard of and known a few people that have done really well using the M&E fast intermittently when hitting a stall or whatever....and it's alot easier to be a purist when your at goal than when your looking down 125 long pounds worth left to lose...and just want to get into gear. sorry if I sound snippy but I'm on day four, got a raging headache, and have found a few posts today where the people at goal seem to have forgotten what it feels like to be at the beginning of the journey.....

Re: Helping my induction with a meat/egg fast-finally ketosis!

10 pounds in 3 days wow. Congrats seems like you are definetly not metabolically resistant at all. Not sure how you are determining your are not in ketosis.

Nobody said anything about doing the meat and egg fast forever in here that i can see either. But not eating nutrients the body needs simply for for rapid fliud weight loss harms the body. the rapid loss when one changes to an all protein plan is fluid weight just as the weight loss from eating whooshie pie is fluid weight loss caused by the diuretic effect of the horseradish. if your goal is fat loss nothing has been gained consuming those.
and it's alot easier to be a purist when your at goal than when your looking down 125 long pounds worth left to lose...and just want to get into gear.
to reply to your remark about purists nope it is easier to get to goal being a purist thern monkeying around with Dr Atkins plan. we all struggled with what we percevied to be too slow losing even though we were doing fine and we hung in there when the scales ddin't move cause we knew they would again.Nobody became an Atkineer at goal we all were there whole journey every step of the way working on becoming healtheir smaller folk.
