  • Help!

    Hi,
I have been on Induction since April and had my first cheat this week with chocolate!! I have been trying to get to OWL, but messed up the rungs by category, so I started Induction over again.

So, last night I had to have more chocolate!! I tried to resist, but gave in.
Im not ready to quit, but I do not want to continue to start over every time. You know what I mean? Sweets lately, I have been craving.

Any advice would be appreciated!! Has anyone tried the supplement L-glutamine Dr. Atkins talks about for sugar cravings?

    Thanks in Advance!

If you are going to 'cheat with chocolate' lets do it right. Make Ellen's coconut oil bark!

Tastes like a super rich almond joy....

Maybe I should delete this.. if you are doing induction you would not want to make this....but if your diet is driving you to cheating you should likely try moving to OWL anyway, if it is just feelings of deprivation.

      Re: Help!

I was told by a complimentary medicine practitioner that L-glutemine will stop hypoglycemia headaches in some people because it is the particular amino acid that the brain uses for fuel. Whether that helps with the cravings or not for most people, I don't know, but for me the hypoglycemia headaches usually lead to eating lots of carbohydrate and sugar laden food (it's like I will eat whatever is in sight to get rid of the headaches). But I've experimented with using the glutamine on and off and keeping track of when I get hypoglycemia headaches - and it really does seem to help. I take a teaspoon in the morning when I've had the headaches the day before - though the headaches are much more mild than they were pre-Atkins. I was told I should not eat for an hour after taking it b/c stomach acid will burn it up. Also, I was told that for it to work it needs to be a pure/high quality supplement - the brand recommended to me was Xymogen and the specific product recommended was Glut-Aloe-mine. Hope this is helpful.

Is it that time of month perhaps?
I would try a magnesium supplement. Sometimes craving for chocolate may mean you need magnesium.
Also if you must have some chocolate taste you could try cocoa powder - a tiny bit with cream could just do the trick. Or if you make it to rung three try the chocolate bark.
