  • The weight is dropping but not the pants size.

    Hello everyone,

I am finishging up my 4th week of induction (tomorrow) and although I am elated that I have lost almost 20lbs, its not showing in my pants size. I even brought some new jean because I know usually 10-15lbs equals one pant size. I can now fit jeans in my normal pant size that may have been small before but I cant comfortably fit the new jeans I brought. Has anyone else experianced this?? Also, this is kind of funny, I had a dream, more like a nightmare last night that I cheated and ate a chocolate carrot cake. I was so happy to wake and realize it was a dream.

Congrats on your loss so far!! 20 pounds in the first month is ASTOUNDING!!!

And dont feel bad. I lost 40 pounds and only dropped ONE pant size.. and maybe a half Like you, I was baflled and slightly (ok maybe more than slightly) irritated with it. But just hang on - maybe increase the exercise you do for your lower body!! As long as you are losing inches, you have nothing to worry about. Things always catch up.

I used to have dreams 3 times a week that were SO vivid, I would wake myself up and grab a ketostik, check all the garbages in the house, and brush my teeth because my cheating dreams were so vivid and I could taste everything!!! After so long, I learned to enjoy them since I can dream without the side effects (being out of ketosis, weight gain, etc.)

Our dreams are often fantastical manisfestation of our unconcious mind... and out unconsious mind when losing weight is acting on behalf of our old bodies/minds/souls... the former fat us... the us that fed our cells with vacuous carb/fat mixtures... these dreams are in my mind the body's last ditch attempt to compell us to that desert counter at out local deli, or to Tim Hortons or Krispy Kreme to induldge and set us on that fat fast track we were all aboard so miserably.

I think we should delight in these dreams as it is as if they are the final frontier. I stopped having those dreams about 2 months ago... CAUSE I AM IN CONTROL!!!!!
I hope you get there too.

My inches seem to have stopped on my waist... but I seem to have toothpicks ( well not quite) carrying me around. I am losing fat in weird places that I don't measure... my neck, the back of my head... my armpits... I guess it all has to go... and I guess any loss is a good loss

      Just keep on keepin on!

      Be well

I've had scenarios like you mention early on where I lost pounds on the scale but had no noticeable change in clothing early on in the diet. On the flip side, lately I have not been losing big numbers on the scale, but have been dropping pant sizes quicker. I find as long as "something" is changing (scale or waist line), I can find a reason to be excited! I hope you can too.

As for the vivid "cheating" dreams, I had those too. I was trying to explain one to a friend once and joked that it was like a "wet dream" for a dieter. LOL!

I've also been having dreams that I ate things I shouldn't have, and they are soooo incredibly vivid, that in my dream after I enjoy eating the bad things I feel very upset. Then when I wake up I am still upset and have to convince myself that it really didn't happen, because I am clearly still in bed. LOL - I thought this was so weird that I must be only one who has them - but now I seem I'm not alone in this.

First off, congrats on the weight loss. I know where you are coming from- I'm down 23 pounds but still haven't dropped a size. Pants are a little looser around the waist but that's all. As long as the weight keeps coming off, keep at it - the sizes will catch up eventually.

Re: The weight is dropping but not the pants size.

I started at 194, at a size 16/14. I was only that size because I had been doing weight training, which I've stopped for now. Before that my highest size was 18, with a weight from 160-200lbs.

This year I got serious about diet and dropped 25lbs...and became a comfortable 14. I lost 5 more lbs and suddenly became a size 12, with 14s falling off me. I'm hovering around 12 10lbs later. It appears my chest in shrinkage mode, right now.

This is what I do: buy a pair of pants one size lower than you are. Try them on once a month. Personally it's a good gauge and mini goal for me.
