  • Induction questions....Help please

Is it possible to do a high calorie Fat Fast (around 2000 calories my BMR) until i reach my goal and loose 18 pounds? After i reach my goal then i would go onto the next step. Could i do this?? Please let me know, or if anyone has tried this i would like to know how your experience went.

I'm pretty new to this - but I think DANDR only contemplates doing the fat fast for a few days if at all except for people with an extremely high matabolic resistance to weight loss. If you haven't read that chapter of DANDR it might be helpful to give it a read.

Right on 7Miriam! Read the Fat Fast section in the book~~read the whole book. Are you metabolically resistant? Regarding the Fat Fast Dr. A said:

"Let me make it clear that the Fat Fast is actually dangerous for anyone who is not metabolically resistant. For people who lose weight fairly easily, the rate of weight loss is too rapid to be safe. But it carries very little risk for people who can barely lose on any other regime. The reason why I ask such people to try the Fat Fast is to let them know that it is possible to lose weight."

But i'm not planning on going sooo low in calories. I've read the book, but he never talks about a "Fat Fast" that includes a large quantity of calories. Any thoughts? Basically can my diet be mostly fat?

I think the book contemplates that you get most of your net carbs from veggies and that you eat protein, not just fat. Some posts on this web site talk about a study that has the percentage breakdowns of fat, carbs, and protein that result from analyzing the menu plans in DANDR. Perhaps that will help you.

One problem I can see with planning just to eat what is listed in the fat fast is that I could not restrict myself to just those food items over a long period of time.

Can you imagine eating only 10 servings of these alternatives for a few months and nothing else?
            1. One ounce of macadamia nuts or macadamia nut butter
            2. Two ounces of cream cheese or Brie
            3. One ounce of tuna or chicken salad with two teaspoons of mayonnaise served in one-quarter of an avocado
            4. Two deviled eggs made with two teaspoons of mayonnaise
            5. Two ounces of sour cream and two tablespoons black or red caviar
            6. Two and a half ounces whipped heavy cream topped with sucralose zero-calorie syrup
            7. Two ounces of pate (check label for fat content)
            8. Two egg yolks (hard-boiled) with one tablespoon of mayonnaise
After even one day I would be craving something crisp and clean-tasting like celery sticks or red peppers! I am no expert but I imagine you would be missing out on a variety of minerals and vitamins by restricting your food choices to such a limited list.

As Miriam and Ozlover said, the fat fast is only recommended for a few days and for those metabolically challenged people who cannot get into ketosis by any other means.

The other reason I would say definitely not to do this till you reach goal is that what would you have learned about how to eat a balanced diet?

OWL is a long process where we discover not only how many carbs our body can eat and still lose weight but how our body reacts to different foods and food combinations while losing weight.

It has been devised by Dr Atkins as the main phase of Atkins - after all it is called 'ongoing weight loss' - so why skip it?
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
