  • Looking for 'legal' snack and menu ideas and other advice

Wow! You are all such an inspiration. I am hoping this forum will be able to answer some questions. I am in my third week of Induction and have only shed 8 lbs. I decided to commit to Atkins because after doing much research, I thought I would be able to lose weight more quickly than I have in the past on Weight Watchers. I have been following the program but have been finding some things quite challenging. First, my appetite is poor. I force myself to eat breakfast ( eggwhite cheese omlette) and dinner ( chicken, steak or fish and salad). I miss fruit but do not have cravings. It has been a positive experience for me to be off sugar. That habit was totally out of control. I realize after reading through the boards and re-reading Atkins for Life and the 2002 book, that I am not eating nearly enough. I could use some help with varied Induction menus. The recipe book menus start off with 45g of carbs and at this stage, that is ay too many. I want to stay on Induction until I lose a total of 15-20 lbs and then start the ladder journey. I am on medication which may inhibit a faster weight loss, but I am encouraged that I was able to lose the 8 lbs thus far. Can anyone suggest legal snack besides hard cooked eggs or cheese? I love to cook and know how to plan and prepare for proper eating. I want to succeed. I just haven't lost any weight in several days and I am bummed out. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Also looking for wonderful recipes, meal plans and a way to get my ticker to appear ( ugh). Thank you kindly for reading my plight.
    All the best,

    Hi,
Not sure what to say. Have you looked around the board? There is a recipe section and people often post recipes in the induction forum. I think you should start by concentrating on getting your meals right before snacks. What the heck are you eating eggwhite omelette's for. Sounds very WW to me.
Eggs are very healthy but you have to eat the whole thing. It will keep you full. You probably should start varying your veggies. There are about 45 to choose from - eating only salad would drive me nuts.
Are you exercising? Helps with mood and motivation and metabolism. Start small and try something new.

Liv, thanks for your accessent. The egg white thing is just really my preference. I am rarely hungry and I find the white cheese omlette digestible. I am doing exercise - my treadmill and some weight training. Ofcourse I could increase especially the aerobic. I am searching for nmore recipes and hope the scale moves down very soon. It's really upseting. On the upside, I very musch appreciate the support and excellent suggestions. Will keep y'all posted.

        You do eat lunch though?
See you have to eat on Atkins and you have to eat fats. If you cut carbs and then starve yourself the body rebel big time and try to hang on to what it has.
If you are exercising hard perhaps you are losing inches. Are you measuring? Sometimes inches tell a much truer story than the scale does.

I agree Liv, the scale can be sneaky........use the tape measure. I weighed myself on Sunday and was UP two pounds, however I was able to fit in a pre-prego shirt that night!!!!!!

Use the tape measure.....or every few days I try on a pair of ,y old jeans to see if they get any closer to buttoning.....lol

As far as legal snack foods...hmmm...things I had...

Hard boiled eggs were my first discovery.
Oven-baked pepperonis...they make a very good "chip" snack, plus they're spicy. Watch the salt content and the ingredient list for the ones you get. They can stall some folks.
Pork rinds/Cracklins - Yumm...from the south...I won't elaborate on my love affair with pork products! LOL
Cubes of cheese - I like extra sharp vermont cheddar.

Also, when I cook up meat -- chicken, steak, etc. -- I will throw an extra piece on, as it does help to have pre-cooked meat sometimes when you're craving and you want something and you don't have the energy to cook...

You can scramble an egg, and then microwave it in a bowl, and it comes out sort of like a bun. If you do that with two of them, then you've created an "egg bun" which helps me break the monotony of "burger night" around the house.

Re: Looking for 'legal' snack and menu ideas and other advice

You can always eat regular meal items for snack, just do it on a smaller scale. However, if you want something that is "snacky", here are a few suggestions that get me through my munchie moments:

              Boiled eggs
              Devilled eggs
              Pepperoni
Pork rinds - sometimes plain, sometimes with hot sauce
Cheese "chips": Spread shredded cheese on parchment and microwave until crispy @
              2 minutes
Sugar/starch free lunchmeat and cheese rollups

Really, with a little creativity your possibilities are endless! Once you start making your way up the rungs, your problem will be trying to choose which one of the hundreds of choices to have!

                Cream Cheese with Celery
Cauliflower and Broccoli Florets with Ranch Dressing
Chicken Wings Baked or Fried (Unbreaded) - I love mine with Frank's Hot Sauce and make them ahead of time to store for snacks
Rolled Up slices of Turkey with cheese
                Pepperoni

How about vienna sausages? I have been told that you are not to have nitrates (my book will be here tomorrow hopefully!). The label says sodium nitrite. Is that legal, or no?
