  • am I doing something wrong?

Hi guys!!! This is my very 1st post. Im new here. Anyways I feel like Im not loosing enough weight. I began atkins 2 weeks ago. On sept. 22nd and weighed in at 249 and now I have lost 9 lbs. When I stepped on the scale this past Saturday it said 240. So I was happy. But here it is Tuesday and IM STILL THERE at 240. Im trying my best not to cheat. Im pretty proud of myself actually cause I HATE meat. The most meat I usually get is the pepperoni on my pizza or the chicken in my fettucini alfredo..LOL. I know it sounds like Atkins wouldnt be a good choice for me...but obviously the food Ive been eating with all those starches and carbs wasnt helping me. And Ive brought my carbs down to 20 per day. NO bread, pasta or potatoes. BUT Im a candy freak. I used to eat like 2 king size snickers everyday and a bowl of icecream and 8 cans of pop. Now I have ONLY drank water. No icecream. And I have allowed myself for a snack one buttersctoch candy or a roll of those smarties things. Is this bad? Its the only thing that has kept me going this couple weeks. I also found that I love sugar free jello is this ok? Because I dont really care for much meat Ive been making stirfrys with chicken or steak and veggies. i also dont know if this is ok. Because of the carbs in the veggies. I wanna loose a lot of weight before Feb. I know that sounds kinda ridiculous cause its only 4 months away. But I have to wear a swim suit. Im a very picky eater. But I need help. If I started at 249lbs...and I have 4 months to get into a swimsuit. What type of a goal should I set it at?
    PLEASE HELP ME SOMEONE!!!!

Re: am I doing something wrong?

Here's the rub...and yes, you're doing it wrong.

The purpose of the induction phase was to break the addiction to sugar that you are carrying around (icecream, snickers, 8 cans of soda...etc.). Instead, you've just cut it down, and you're eating things like SF Jello, butterscotch, etc. which are sweet and likely causing you not only to stall, but also are setting you up for failure in the future. Instead of breaking yourself of the addiction you've just beaten it into submission for a bit, and that's not the idea.

Secondly, I would ditch the scale and use the twine. What I mean is that sometimes we don't lose "pounds" but we are losing "inches." That is a really motivating thing when the scale says nada but the string shows half an inch off of your upper arm, or your belly.

As far as the diet in general, the stirfry depends on what sort of vegetables are in there, what sauces, etc.

One thing you need to come to terms with is that Atkins is not a diet, it's more of a lifestyle. The phases eventually lead you to a diet where you can have carbohydrates again, but never in the copious amounts you describe, and never would Dr. A have recommended the sort of candy sweet tooth action you painted in this message. If you are unwilling to change the lifestyle, it's unlikely that the "diet" aspect of it will work for you. It's just a tool to work on a busted engine, instead of replacing the whole engine itself.

    Just my thoughts anyhow.

    Ty.

      Wow... 9 pounds is awesome!

Don't worry about it not showing a loss for the past three days. Sometimes our bodies need a chance to catch up.

I've not been on atkins long enough to give you much advice but I can tell you that you should read the book. It would fully explain every answer to the questions you asked above. I got mine (used but works) for fifty cents at the thrift store.

Hi there I feel your pain, as a former sugar junkie myself. If you hang in there and do Induction properly, the sugar cravings should disappear. But, no cheating ... any sugar will be a trigger! Be strong and wait it out ... it's worth it! Best of luck to you ... check in here as often as necessary for moral support; it really helps. Oh, and nine lbs. lost is great ... congrats!

I would caution and say basically anything that tasted sweet was a trigger to me when I lost my weight on Atkins. Be careful about trigger foods. Recognize them and stay away.

Stay true to the diet and sooner or later you will break the addiction like others have said and you will start dropping weight like butter melting off of corn. LOL Nice analogy huh? You and I have the same ammount of weight to lose, maybe we can encourage eachother!

Pardon me...just making some reality corrections to this statement.

Thanks for your help guys. I won't cut out sweets completely, because I can if I choose. I'm addicted to sugar and not only do I not want to give it up, it scares me to death because I'm not sure what to do instead of give in to my cravings! I really need to learn how to keep going without sabotaging myself.

There. Now we've changed that to a statement of truth.

You CAN cut out the garbage. It comes down to commitment. Do you want to be as close to your goals by February as you can be or do you want to eat the smarties, butterscotches, and jello? - You can't have both!

                      So? Which is it?

You're surrounded by people who have done or are doing what you're setting out to do and are willing to help you through it. You just have to embrace what's being offered to you and what's free to take here (experience/advice/support/butt-kicking/hand-holding as needed!).

No excuses. There is a distinct difference between "can't" and "won't". We know it's hard. We know it's frustrating sometimes. We also know that the rewards are SOOOOO worth it...and we know YOU are worth it.

I think you can do anything you set your mind to and when you decide that about yourself, you're going to be unstoppable!

I won't wish you luck, because luck has squat to do with it. I wish you success.

Re: am I doing something wrong?

I know that it is hard to give up sweets. But the truth is that you DON'T need them to "keep you going". This is what you have forced your body into believing all these years. I have been on this diet for 8 days now and I haven't had a single sweet. Yes it was hard, but now I don't even crave them. I tried having Crystal Light in my water yesterday and I only took a couple sips and couldn't stand it anymore. It was too sweet. But you have to eliminate them before you can not miss them. What you're doing is like trying to give up alcoholism and still having one wine cooler a day

Starting today..there are NO sweets for me. I just need support and I think I can do it. I know it will be well worth it. I wanna look hot in my swim suit. I want the heads turning to look at me and say "wow she looks good" instead of the heads turning and saying "shes huge"
