Looking at your stats and weightloss so far, I cant see why you are extending your induction, Cinnamon

Have you thought of moving on to the main weightloss phase of Atkins now?
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Check out our Low Carb Recipes website and add to it!!

Elizellen! Hi! I think I will say "thanks" because I am assuming that since you wonder why I am extending my induction--you must be happy with my weight loss so far? I am not unhappy--actually--HAPPY! I am extending it a bit to just be sure I am ready to add more carbs. I want to drop a bit more first. I am not keeping STRICT records of what I eat so possible I am taking a bit extra carbs here or there....but trying to keep them lower than the 20 and think I am doing so. I need to add more veggies....

BELIEVE it or not--my hardest issue is getting in the fats!! I love cheese but know it is restricted. When I each chicken breasts (often) or shrimp--that is practically fat free! I need a way to add some fat.l... I am making a mayo dip tonight for the shrimp and may even fry in olive oil and butter first. YUM!!!! That should do the trick! The weirdest part is my lunch was practically fat free!!?? Grilled chicken breast...and some spinich. No fat...I need to work on the fat part. Not avoiding it...just --was not in the checken breast (preskinned)...and not in the spinich. Looking back, I guess I should have added some butter to the spinich (or more butter should I say! . Would have tasted better....

I was a vegan for around 4 years because I thought it would keep me from heart disease and the other ailments I thought I saw that people who ate foods containing meat (and that were high in fat) were getting. I was brainwashed by years of Pritikin being preached in my home by my father. He went on Pritikin, started running and lost 40 pounds. I did the same when I was in my mid 20's because I had become over-fat. It works for a while then suddenly no matter how "clean" you eat, you end up looking like a smaller version of what you were before. I still had love handles and fat around my belly button. The fat deposits were just smaller. I sort of resembled those "Feed the Children" infomercials you see on TV early in the morning. You know, skinny arms, chest, neck and legs with a gut.

When I considered the Adkins approach, I was very conflicted. But as I read his book (the original from 1973) My eyes opened wide and I was like, "Holy Cr$p! This makes total sense." I realized that as I was in induction that my supposed need for carb foods was just habit. The only carb food I miss is an orange with lunch! Been my favorite since I was a kid. I might include these unless they take me out of ketosis.

        Just my 2 cents.

As you are following DADR you are 'allowed' to choose which carbs to add - but only 5 total carbs at a time - so 1/3 of a medium orange at first to see how your body handles those extra carbs!

The part that floored me in the book was how the higher-fat items leaves you feeling fuller, faster, longer... and it's oh so true!
