  • Losing...but losing confidence

Hey all, first post...(should i be posting somewhere else first?), have been doing atkins for nearly 6 weeks now, and have currently lost 20 pounds...woo!, although do not see inch change, apparently everyone else does tho. Am i just being paranoid?

  • #2
I didn't see any change until I lost 35 pounds! And it took until 42 pounds before someone noticed!

Don't worry, your body will do a full-body shrink and you'll lose inches.

    Hang in there.

It's a bummer, but hey, my *** wasn't built in a day, so it's gonna take even longer to get rid of it. :no

I've lost roughly 25lbs and I get comments all the time but I personally cannot tell the difference at all. I guess when I turn sideways I look a little thinner but that's about it. I still have a huge, bloated stomach

Some of our members refer to them as "fat goggles" ... the way we see ourselves that takes time to change regardless of what we lose.

Look for some tight fitting "incentive" piece of clothing and try it on until it fits ... you'll see the change. I'm always amazed when looking at photos posted by our members ... they often preface their post with ... "I can't see much difference!" But there is a world of difference in most of the photos.

When you are alone in your head, you are in a bad neighborhood.

I'm still wearing my "fat" clothes because they still fit. It's quite discouraging. I've only lost an inch yet i've lost 25 lbs. I dunno what's going on with me. urplequ:

Are you sure??? 25 pounds lost and you can still wear the same clothes??? I just ask because for most women 10 pounds of weight loss brings them down a size or two depending on body type.

I'm just wondering are we talking baggy sweats and tent dresses here?? Or real clothes??? 25 pounds is a lot of weight lost and at your height and start weight that should have made quite a difference. For the folks who started at over 200...I can see how they might not notice but from 165 to 140 on a 5'6 person should be very noticeable difference..am i missing something here. I just lost 8 pounds and can get in smaller size...25 would put me in three sizes smaller.

It's hard to see the forest for the trees when you're right in the middle of it. It helps if you measure every two weeks or once a month, so that you see a bigger change, instead of small ones.
I'm over 40 pounds down, and I sometimes still feel like I'm the same size as I was when I started. I see that I am wearing smaller sized clothes now, but I have actually found myself thinking "Sure, it's a size L, but it must be actually a really BIG size L in order for me to fit it....and those size 12 pants must really be more like a size 18, because that's what I usually wear"
It can take a long time for us to put our fat goggles away.

cnwade, I think alot of it has to do with our body types/frames and where the majority of our weight is deposited and the pattern our bodies shrink.

My bone structure is such that I'm "wide" naturally. My jaw is square-ish giving me one of those "apple faces". I have wide shoulders and a wide pelvis. So a 10 or 20 pound loss doesn't show as easily on me as compared with a person with a "narrower" bone structure.

I believe you if you say so.

It just seemed odd to me....and I can relate from the standpoint that unlike most women ALL of my weight is in my mid section, even when I'm very thin I'm still thicker in the middle than other areas of the body. So I always appear wider overall than what my actual weight or clothing size is. And I have a wide heart shaped face so the slightest weight gain shows up there.
So I do realize frame plays a part.

Yes, it sounds strange but I'm still wearing the exact same clothes as when I was 165. I seem to lose weight in every other place except for my stomach/wasit. My thighs/arms/face has shrunk considerably but that's it. I still have this gigantic stomach. It's depressing. I could probobly be 105 lbs and still look like i'm pregnant. what gives?

                              Hey there,
Dont get worried i too had a similar experience when i got started in June i think i lost 30 pounds in 2 months and those two months i didnt lose an inch around my waist or thighs, was still wearing the same pants and tops. But i stuck with it i was even exercising 2 hours daily walking. It was frustrating.

Now mid september all over sudden my pants were falling off me i remember even posting about it here it was quite embarrassing. It was like whoosh fairy of inches had come and visited me the night before and took all the inches at once. That day i had to go shopping for pants.

So dearie hang in there whoosh fairy will come ure way to take the inches away.
