  • Lowered Cholesterol

My work just sponsored a 'health fair'. It was an unique experience. They took basic biometric statistics; height, weight, blood pressure, etc. They also did a blood draw and provided a lipid and glucose panel. Prior to starting Induction on July 29th of this year, my cholestrol was 196 and my triglycerides were borderline. When I told the people taking my measurements that I had lost 50 lbs in a matter of three months they looked at me with slacked jaws. It was awesome! They asked me what I was doing and I told them I was on Atkins Extended Induction. Of course, I was met with immediate disapproval and warnings that my cholestrol would probably be elevated as a result.

Guess what?! I made them eat their words. My cholesterol dropped 31 points to 165 and my triglycerides were 'below average'. Awesome!!! They looked at me with stunned disbelief. It was an incredible feeling. For the first time in 12 years of marriage, my cholesterol was lower than my wife's (a point she has always flaunted in my face).

Atkins is not only my new way of eating... it's my religion!!!

            Re: Lowered Cholesterol

Thanks for the info. I hope for my next blood analysis I have similar results. I was doing You on a Diet and for some reason my triglycerides jumped to 300. The doctor put me on Lopid, but It was giving me vertigo and making my tinnitus worse so I stopped it and started on Atkins. It may be another six months before I let them do an analysis since they have to practically drag me in for one. I'm kind of a wimp with big needles. But when I get them, I will post the before and after. Thanks again.

              Re: Lowered Cholesterol

definitely you should see a drop in your triglycerides. Page 176 explains why, stored fat is made up of triglycerides. What do we burn on Atkins? Stored fat. Bingo!

Mine has gone down to 162 total cholesterol on Atkins. It was never over 200 to begin with, but I like the sound of that number 162, and my HDL rose 5 points.

HDL acts as a 'broom' to sweep bad cholesterol to your liver to be metabolized, so it can't form plaque in your arteries. Make sure you exercise to bring this 'good' form of cholesterol up, it is doing you an important servce! and welcome to the board.
