  • Question about salt and water intake

I travel for work two days a week. Thus I am pretty much forced to "eat out" during those two days.

So, for breakfast I always hit up the local waffle house for some eggs and some bacon. I know that this bacon is probably higher in salt content so I generally try to "up my water" in take for the day in hopes of counter acting the additional sodium. Should this work? I'm pretty much a newbie and I don't have scales with me when I travel so I'm not sure if it works yet or not.

Re: Question about salt and water intake

I have found that water helps relieve the sodium bloat.

Sodium is hygroscopic (water attracting) and as you drink water, the salt goes out with it. So, water does help.

Re: Question about salt and water intake

Lately I've been drinking around 200 oz per day. This allows me to eat close to 2000 mg of sodium without retaining water (or at least not too much). But before this, when I used to drink max. 100 oz per day, I was gaining weight whenever eating more than 1500 mg.

So yes, water does help up to a point. In any case, it's better to gain some water weight than to cheat.
