  • For the girls: What did your cycle do to your weight loss?

    I'd been losing steadily and now, since being on my period, I've not lost anything in a week and instead gained a pound. I'm not doing anything different and in fact upped my workouts a bit. Is this just because of all the wacky things your body does during this time of the month, or what? Will this happen every month?

    Some of us find our weight goes up several pounds around that time of the month, so you might find that is your experience too. So maybe (if it is likely to bother you) try not to weight for a few days till the effects of TOM pass.

      i hate being a girl lol..

      anyways i didnt loose that entire week and when i did weigh myself i had gained 2lbs. i didnt need to get on the scale really i knew i was puffy because my ring fit again lol.. so im going to do induction another week.. if you can work out continue to do it.. i cant workout until i go to the dr for some iron pills ive fainted too many times i dont want to risk it esp with a baby in the house

        i always go up a pound or two that week so i know now not to weigh myself. it's also the only time i really crave candy but i can usually satisfy my sweet tooth with a diet cherry coke since i hardly ever have soda. one time i had to resort to eating a chocolate chip - it's all i would allow myself - and i felt like such a loser afterwards i haven't done it again! but i think the pound or two for that time of month is pretty typical, no matter what your woe is.

          I have a coil now and so don't have TOM (so happy about that as suffered badly with them after having children). When I did have TOM, I lost about 0.5-1 pound per week for three weeks and then 4-5 pounds on the fourth (and TOM) week! It happened on every diet I have done.

          I noticed I stayed the same one week so wonder if I will have a pause every three weeks but haven't really been doing it long enough to know yet.

            I stall or gain every month with TOM. It's frustrating but you aren't alone

              I can gain up to 7 pounds during TOM! It's crazy, but it always falls off (sometimes taking lbs with it) after TOM passes, so don't worry, you're not alone.

                GAH! That is so frustrating. I hate not seeing progress, it really messes with my head.

                  It does work itself out in the end though - I gain/stall every time but I look at my weight loss for the month and thats cool beans! Just don't get hung up on the scales, you will still be fat burning and I can bet you are still losing the inches.

                  Oh! The things us girls have to suffer!!! :0)

                    That water bloat is just one of the reasons TOM is AKA the curse...
                    Knowledge is power, though - if you do decide to weigh, and the number appears unjustifiably higher than it should be since yesterday, consider the possible TOM.

                    I have to try harder to keep my head when I weigh, being pre-menopausal my cycle can go wacky I've found out recently, if I stop taking certain supplements for awhile. Like now, 2 1/2 weeks after my last round... no cheats, yet no losses. BUT, TOM has knocked again, he's here early, plus (typical before TOM) I consumed extra salt (which aggravates water bloat) without anticipating this cycle, so I'm taking the scale's report "with a grain of salt", so to speak. In 3-4 days, at the very least, by Christmas, I expect to reach 155!!!
