  • I hit my first goal weight and now I'm stalled

I should have seen this coming after I made a post about how "easy" this all seemed. I hit my first goal weight almost a week ago. The very next day, I had gained two pounds. I've been spending every day since then trying to get those two pounds gone. I'm back to within half a pound of what I was on 12/19 when I hit my goal weight. What gives??

I'm eating the right stuff. Here's a typical menu.

Breakfast: four egg omelet with cheese
three or four strips of low sodium bacon

    Lunch: Chicken Breast
1 to 1/2 cups of lettuce

Dinner: Steak, chicken breast, Tilapia, or Salmon with either bell pepper or 1 to 1/2 cups of Salad.

I make sure to add about 1/2 tablespoon of butter to every meal to make sure I'm getting enough fat.

I'm also pounding down the water like they're going to stop selling it.

As far as vitamins go, I'm taking Men's One a Day Health. It has everything except it says it has 0mg of Iron (which is what the book says I should take).

    Is this normal??

It's definitely normal. As it has been said many times on this board before...weightloss is not linear. Check this out: How do I deal with stalls and plateaus?

Are you "regular"? If not, like Dr. Atkins suggests, "...mix a tablespoon or more of psyllium husks in a cup or more of water and drink daily. Or mix ground flaxseed into a shake or sprinkle wheat bran on a salad or vegetables."

No, I'm definitely not "regular". I'm basically only going once very six days or so. It's murder.

Well if you only go once every six days.... you know where all that weight is! Go to your local drug store and get fiber capsules from psyllium husks. It will not work overnight, but it will make you a lot more regular overall. regular cardio also helps with water retention and bloat. Good luck and Merry Christmas!

Definitely normal to see a small pause and it sure looks your menu is good. You could eat more fibrous veggies to help your "regularity" also magnesium helps me.

Re: I hit my first goal weight and now I'm stalled

                  Machiavelli,

Well, first congratulations on reaching your first milestone. Second, I won't go as "normal", it is definitely not normal to go only once every six days; having said that, this is common in most diets, especially Atkins. Statistics say that 55% of Atkins dieters suffer constipation. I had my share too at first, and it is for sure not a good feeling, if you know what I mean.. But it is a learning process..

Your diet doesn’t have enough fiber, depending on the rung, I would increase the veggie intake and use flaxseed or fiber pills as suggested above, this along with walking and general body activity help A LOT. May not go as far once every day, but will certainly make it may once every 2 or 3 days, the more you progress into your diet and go to higher rungs, the easier it gets, because increased carb intake *usually* means higher fiber too.

                  Hope this helps.

Thanks for the help guys. I've been taking the psylium husks for two days now. It hasn't yet "made me go", but I did finally break back through my goal weight level.
